Breaking Up Is Hard to Do

Title: Breaking Up Is Hard to Do
By: McKay
Word Count: 200
Rating: G
Challenge: #200 – Stages of Courtship. lore prompted me with arguing/breaking up.
Characters: Remus/Severus
A/N: I wanted to write something for this challenge, but it's been a crazy-busy week, so I'm sneaking it in just past the deadline.

"That one is mine," Severus grabbed the book in Remus' hand, a rare, old edition of a magical text on the analgesic properties of certain plants.

The divvying up process had been going on all morning, a tense series of negotiations ensuing as they tried to unravel two years' worth of tangled life; Severus' nerves were frayed, and he felt sick and cold.

Remus tightened his grip on the book. "You gave it to me."

"I loaned it."

"I need this book. These potions are the only thing that help after the transformation."

"The book is useless without me to brew the potions," Severus tugged at the book again, but Remus refused to let go.

"No, I won't give it up."

"Don't be so stupid and stubborn!"

"I won't give up!"

They stared at each other as the implications of Remus' slip of the tongue sank in; Severus cleared his throat, hope warming his chilled heart.

"We could finish this later," he said gruffly, making a much of a concession as he could, knowing Remus would understand.

"Or not at all." Remus slid his fingers along the back of Severus' hand.

"Or that."

The book tumbled to the floor, forgotten.

AWW!! See, this is just what I was hoping for, a really painful argument with an ending that left my heart warmed.

Plus, this totally read like more than 200 words.

*HUGS* You're so the best! Thank you so much!

love, lore
Hee! Well, you know I'm not going to let them end on a sad note. ;) Glad you liked it!
Wonderful way to turn it around. Great job.
Thanks!
I was going to say! OH MY GOD, breaking up? Wahh! but it turned out very nicely!
hee! Well, know you I can't keep them apart. ;)
Aw! I'm glad they changed their minds :D
They both know where they belong. :D
Aww, so sweet! So very Snupin. I always like your depiction of Lupin as being just as capable of stubbornness and temper as Snape.

Except Lupin knows how to apologize.

And fortunately, he also knows how to read a Snape sortofkindofanapology.

Me, I just know to read always read your fics! *happy huggles*
Thanks very much! I'm glad you liked it. :) I suspect Remus knowing how to apologize and how to translate Snape-snark into English is what keeps them together. *G*
