Team: Team Cauldron!
Genre(s): Alive and Kicking

Author's Notes/Disclaimers/Betas: A huge thanks to [info]magic_helmet for doggedly convincing me to enter the Games as an Alternate. To [info]whitestar_alpha for cracking the whip and beating this story into shape. [info]joanwilder for her patience, help as my (previous) captain, and awesome French skills. To Lisa for keeping Severus and Harry in line. To [info]researchgirl and [info]gingertart50 for Brit-picking. To [info]yivel for picking up on all the tiny things. To all my fellow Snitches for being great (ex) team members. To everyone else who helped me crank this out in a month. And a lifetime of thanks and kisses to my own Harry who went above and beyond the call of duty in support.

Summary: Upon waking up, Severus finds himself not recovering from Nagini's bite, but healing after a long-term mysterious illness. Not only must he uncover the mystery of the cause of his affliction, but also deal with his lover, who is the very last person he wanted to ever see again: Harry Potter.

I don't know how I missed this entry while reading the Games. Good thing I stumbled upon it yesterday.
I read the whole thing today - my eyes are almost swollen shut as I write this. I cried so hard.
Beautiful story.
Although the rape scene really squicked me out. The idea of even thinking of a relationship with a person who could do such a thing is inconceivable to me. But it's Harry Potter not RL so I can let is slide.

Thank you so much for your comment.

I admit the rape scene was disturbing to me too, but it's how I felt the characters going and I wanted to stay true to them. It shows that I can't write true romances without help from another :p

However, that being said, I think it's also important to note (if it wasn't clear in the story), Severus didn't realise he was raping Harry until after it had occurred. Throughout it, he thought Harry wanted it simply because he'd attributed strength to Harry and also because Harry had said that Severus could do 'anything' earlier. It wasn't until he saw the past memories and reflected on Harry that he realised what he'd done. In some ways, that's even more fucked up, but it's an error that will never occur again between the two. Harry learnt the hard way that Severus needs someone who will point out when he's being bad instead of just trying to appease him. Since Harry will never roll over for Severus again, he doesn't have to worry about Severus ever repeating that action.

I suppose it may seem like an excuse, but I don't write romances that are meant to be 'ideal'
