TEAM PHOENIX ENTRY: Perverse Idyll "When the Rose and the Fire Are One"
Title: When the Rose and the Fire Are One
Author: [info]perverse_idyll
Team: Phoenix!
Genre(s): Alternate Universe *Hover/Click for Games Definition of Alternate Universe*
Prompt(s): Flesh Memory, Spilling Fire
Rating/Warnings/Kinks: *(HBP but not DH-compliant) Violence, rough sex, character death (not Snape or Harry)*
Word Count: 81,000+
Summary: Harry's haunted by guilt. Snape's warded by roses. Each must free the other in order to free himself.
A/N: First, thank you to the mods for creating the Games in the first place and for having the patience of saints. [info]leela_cat did a phenomenal job with this in a ridiculously short time. Whatever coherence the fic has is due to her heroic efforts and hand-holding. Also thanks to Team Phoenix for putting up with my fumbling captaincy and for helping to make this an enjoyable ride. Lastly, many thanks to my beloved [info]rinsbane for talking me through to the images I needed. I wish this were a better first offering, my dear.

*With gratitude to [info]leela_cat and apologies to T. S. Eliot.

oh yikes! I can't read this until probably this weekend, when I have time to take my time and savor, but you know how much I'm looking forward to it and that I'll be rooting for you, even though you're on the wrong team!. I'm drooling with anticipation.

Heh. Yeah, I imagine a lot of people will be clapping their hands over their eyes and pretending they didn't see this one because they're so worn out with so much reading that a lengthy word-count is practically a squick by now.

I will love you forever for any attempt you make at any time you make it. Even if you don't slog all the way through. This isn't exactly an example of aesthetic beauty, partly because there's a helluva lot of - oh God, I can't believe I'm admitting this - first-draft material that never got beta'd because I had three extensions and stayed up two nights in a row writing and being slightly insane and it was still overdue. So, um, yeah. A grab-bag of the good, the bad, and the confusing.

Also, don't apologize for the delay in reading. I've only just begun wading into the vast sea of Games fic. I'm so far behind, it ain't funny. And I've barely started giving feedback. Must rectify.

And you know? The moment a good fic gets posted, team allegiance goes out the window. Since I can't vote, I feel I can be polyamorous in my ficcish affections.

Lastly: d'aw, your icon!

Are you kidding? I squeed when I saw your wordcount! Gods I can't wait to read this. The sheer length promises to be satisfying. *goes off to start*

*g* I love long fics myself. It's just that I've noticed grumbles here and there about the, um, embarrassment of riches in fic fests; also a few discussions on preferred length of reading material. Lots of fandom seems to want fics they can gobble down in one sitting, especially if there's pressure on them to vote. I do sympathize; I just wasn't thinking of it that way when this fic took over my life was being written.
