Thank you so much for an absolutely brilliant story!
Funny yet with a real plot, and best of all, all your wonderful magical ideas - the reader feels totally immersed in your world, and it's familiar and yet one is constantly being introduced to new things - just like Severus in Camden :-) Talk about never a dull moment! I can't help grinning just thinking of Harry in his cape and lightning-bolt patterned red long-johns, and the cape being the Veil - brilliant. I liked that you had the uncertainty about what happens with it - that Harry has no idea either. As well as the wonderful illustrations, the writing is so visual too - you can just picture Harry's sparking hair, him rampaging in his fluttering, jangling curtain-ringed cape and long-johns (sorry, they obviously had a big impact on me :-)),Severus filling in the red hand-print with his knuckle so it looked right...All fantastic.
One to read again and again. Thank you.

Ok, so that was just seriously weird. Brilliant, but weird. Facinating, but weird. Extraordinary, but weird. I just LOVED it, but did I mention I thought it was weird? I haven't laughed out loud that much for a while. It had too many fantastic parts to list any seperatly, just know it grabbed me, turned me upside down, inside out and then spat me out into a laughing, gibbering mess. Booffra

Brilliant! You made me lauphing and crying. Your imagination is magnificent!
I saw bright pop-art style pictures, especially at the final scene in the theater. At the same time it is really elaborated in the fairy tales traditions: Umbridge have disappeared, as all the villains usually do.
Dear authors! I love you! 7,74 КБ
Looking forward for your next great fic! Kasmunaut.

Fantastic work! If only I had a sockpuppet account to award our team full marks.

Honestly, the very start of the narrative didn't feel as smoothly "of a piece" as your work generally feels, but I told myself to just carry on and assume that the slightly jarring quality was a symptom of the dystopian setting (or...perhaps a result of my being sleep deprived *g*). In any case, it took almost no time at all for your story to capture me entirely.

Harry's magic-overdose madness was wonderful (and how perfect to have him bleeding off the excess through his hair!) as was his non-spying spying and "saving people thing." And Snape? Oh god, how I loved Snape, especially since - being exactly Snape's age - the punk past feels absolutely right to me. My own not-yet-posted story alludes to a vaguely related musical background for Snape, but it quickly veers off into...well, you'll see. In any case, it isn't used to such fine purpose (the scene at the club, with Snape shouting the lyrics was brilliant. I could almost hear him crowing).

Oh...and forgive the icon. It's the only hand-related HP icon I have at the moment on insanejournal. :)

I think what I like most about this story is its sheer *exuberance*, the sense of coiled energy, excitement, creativity, and possibility it conveys. Certainly Camden, with its wildly varied inhabitants, but also Harry--both when he's crazy, and when he's not--who keeps just putting himself in Snape's life, despite their history, and in mostly cheerful defiance of Snape's grumbling, and Snape, who manages to take the unjust punishment he's been saddled with and turn it into an instrument of creativity and, ultimately, impressive change. There's suffering and angst, to be sure--Snape's torture at the hands of the Ministry is harrowing, and so is Harry's desperate attempt to deal with the overload of magic--but the overall tone of the story is so hopeful.

The red-handed curse is fiendishly clever, and just the sort of thing I can see the Ministry coming up with. Not only a badge of shame (Scarlet Letter, anyone?), but an instrument of torture, slapped not just on those who might deserve it, but on those who are merely . . . not what the Ministry wants them to be. And I *love* the way Harry, and then the crowd at the end basically take it on, and share it out, make it a mark of pride and belonging, and joy.

And can I just say *thank you* for giving that wretched toad Umbridge her rightful comeuppance? It drives me *crazy* that she seems to get off scott-free in canon. Severus Snape gets put down like an inconvenient pet, and Umbridge prospers. Aaaargh! *deep, cleansing breath* Okay, so, anyway, I liked the way you dealt with Umbridge. Makes me a little curious why the curtain/veil didn't eat Harry, though. Not that I'm complaining, mind. :)

I particularly love this paragraph, just before the two of them make love: "The sight stirred to the surface all the wild, vulnerable dreams of Severus' youth. He'd abandoned them all years ago, along with punk rock concerts and sleeveless shirts, but now it seemed that, just like the stashed-away records, those dreams had needed only an enchantment to be heard, loud and clear and compelling as ever, making his heart leap and making him want to dance along with them."

In some ways, that's the story in a nutshell. That sudden reclamation of everything we thought was lost forever, but has really just been waiting for us to remember we want it.

This is a wonderful story.

I'm not sure I can articulate just how much I love this story. (Or everything you two write, for that matter.) Umbridge, the super-creepy red-hand curse, loony!Harry, the red shower curtain--only you guys would make Harry's superman cape from the actual "Veil"! And wizarding Camden, and oh my God, Punk!Snape (I just about died--being the same generation as Snape, I resent fics that treat him as an "old" man). Your writing is so mature and intelligent, that you can pull-off humor and angst and evil and anarchy all together in one story. Loved the public execution turning into Woodstock (sort of). Well done!

... for this intense and fantastic Snarry. There are so many terrific subplots going on, it's hard to choose just one or two to comment on without ruining the plot for other readers. Umbridge is every bit as vicious as any Death Eater; it amazes me that she'd get voted into the Ministry in any capacity. She is extremely resourceful. One of the most amusing parts of the story was Harry's new cape, complete with jingling shower curtain rings. Loved it! And to find out that the curtain was actually... well, suffice it to say that it had me laughing myself silly. Congratulations on your very entertaining story!

Bloody brilliant! Came here on checking out [info]alisanne's mini reviews. I had definitely over use my quota of pc time. Argh!

Love the way how "politics" works both in the Ministry, in the *relationship* between Harry and Severus. Though it was all bloody and gory, it was really, really good! Thank you!

You got me with the Nick Cave quotes and title, even before I started reading. But then there was the red hand curse and that horrible, nasty, nauseatingly terrifying woman as Minister of Magic.

And Snape just doing whatever it takes to survive with the red caps and the tattoos, while he tries to save Harry yet again as Harry tries to save him.

Oh, and punk Snape with all of the music that I love so well. And veiled/shower-curtained/caped superhero Harry.

Brilliant.

I have no idea how you two manage to keep writing such consistently brilliant fics.

I don't think I can even find the words to describe how much I loved this fic. Admittedly, I was an easy sell, since anything that starts with Nick Cave lyrics is automatically a sign of good things to come. Combine that with a punk!Snape (and his fantastic taste in music) and a completely wonderful Harry and I just about melted into a puddle of happy goo.

I actually thought the whole rebelion/punk theme worked extremely well with the plot, especially with the disenfranchisement of most of the wizarding population. Also, for some reason I was feeling a bit of an Umbridge and Thatcher parallel.

I also loved your use of magic in the story - the "humane" punishment for Snape was very clever and well done, and it was fantastic to see him use it for his own benefit. Very Slytherin. ;)

I have to say again, I just loved this story. It had all these fantastic elements and they worked together to make something amazing.

I really enjoyed this adventure. Wonderfully original, chilling twist with the evil fascist Ministry. I was shocked when Severus was cursed, and it resonated thru the whole fic how sinister they were. Crazy!Harry was an interesting idea - I think your creative interpretations of magical processes was excellent. I loved the rig that Severus made to transfer the magic!

Tapping into the punk era, and today's counterculture was great, it works really well, especially as the Camden crowd emerge as the true allies.

I could have used a bit more lovin... the use of marking with the Red Hand was really intense and beautiful. I feel a need to make illustrations from this story....

Oh yeah, I love it.

The red curtain and its rings! Harry smashed on magic, and terrified of what he's doing to people! Severus as tattoo artist! (and tatts as political rumbling) The climactic scene! (Coherence not available today. I'll have to read this again, to savour all the pleasures I now know are to be had.) I might even listen to some punk rock.

Good heavens! Are you trying to kill us all?

This was a fantastic premise which had the bonus of reuniting me with a much loved song that I hadn't heard in too long. Now it's stuck in my head!

I love the tons of cultural details you added, the subtle and unsubtle nastiness of the curse, the touches of H/C, and most importantly, that Shower Curtain! ;)

OH. MY. GOD.
Your fic made my day. My week. My month. MY F-ING SEASON.
Seriously one of the best in the snarry games. Thank you for that, there haven't been that many GREAT snarry fics lately.

Loved the originality. ADORED your Severus. Damn, I can't possibly go into details. It was GOOD, ALL of it. Couldn't have stopped reading if I wanted to (which I didn't).

Sinick and Acidburn, I worship you. None of your fics have disappointed, EVER. Has anyone told you what a WONDERFUL touch the images are? (rhetoric question) They make the fic so much more realistic.

And here I'd thought I'd already commented on this... darn. Very clever and a strange tale, almost like a roller coaster ride in the dark. Was very happy to see Severus get his magic back and wanted to Crucio Umbridge for the punishment. And Wacky!Harry was worth the read alone. Very well done.

What a fascinating story, from so many different angles.

I missed Kingsley, too. I can't believe that Umbridge managed to weasel her way into power! Heartbreaking, really.

This story begins with such despairing circumstances, and rises to such triumphant heights, that it should almost be a movie. I could really picture the stain spreading from hand to hand, person to person, until it had touched everyone. It reminded me of the King of Denmark protecting the Jews by having all his people wear the star. So beautiful and moving.

I thank you profusely for this wonderful story.

This was *fantastic*!
I loved:

-How Snape managed to embrace Harry's absurdity
-Little details like the importance of floo powder and the smell of goats
-The curtain (and how it followed Snape!)
-The entire concept of the cursed hand
-How Snape was able to use it to his advantage

Oh yeah--I have to mention how amazing Punk/Tshirt/TattooArtist/Snape is, and Snape introducing Harry to the Clash made my day. Thank You for the *great* read!!!

it's been a very busy month so i didn't get to catch up on my games reading till now and boy am i glad i didn't miss this.

but then again- how could i when i saw your names in the title? hands down you guys are my favorite writers in the fandom right now. your stories always have such joy, such relish in them but at the same time they never get self-indulgent, instead each line reveals impressive thought behind it and yet the depth never feels contrived.

this story was no different but it was made all the more special by my favorite aspects of both Harry and Snape. I love your Harry, who is so close to my Harry that I'm officially adopting him (he promises to write). The way he dealt with the Voldie/DE power overload and how he snuck (well, lovingly blasted his way) into Snape's life felt very true. I loved the way you depicted his insanity- he was delightfully absurd one moment and painfully aware the next but it always felt like the same person. Your characterization of Snape was also amazing. Every thought, every description around him felt right. Too often in fanfic Snape feels like a vague general estimation of a grumpy recluse/tortured soul without any unique underlying layer. Your Snape, on the other hand, was a real person and I heard him in your fic. I really like it when writers don't forget his working class background and I loved the way you let his accent and punk lingo through in his unguarded moments. oh and the music? did you have to push every fannish button in my snape-loving heart? :D yes there is a poetic sort of beauty to the thought of the lonely hero listening to classical music and opera in his dungeon but gimme snape in worn jeans and a iggy pop t-shirt and i meeelt! hee!

ok, to cut the adulatory rambling short: you guys rock. you made my day and put a silly grin on my face. thank you!

This fic struck all the right chords for me. It was a wonderful combination of great lyrics, angst, drama, hope, humor, sex, tension, quirky characters, and a great outcome. I love this Harry so much, from his zany and desperate struggle against the overwhelming magic, to his haphazard approach to his attempts to make things better, to his doing what he does best - making other people care through the connections he builds with them. I could feel my heart soaring just like I imagine Severus's was every time he saw that impish figure soaring out of the sky on his broom, or showing up in his house.

I loved that this Severus was able to let his past go in ways that canon Snape was never able to do, and allow himself to move on, make a life for himself and be open to what was being offered him by Harry. His struggles against the curse and the treatment were well presented, and it was so fun to see him as a former punk rocker. You kept his snarking, sarcastic ways, but his gritty determination to persevere, and his essential goodness were lovely to see.

I loved the Camden community and the climax was exactly the kind of scene that makes me want to cheer, it so totally taps into my corny and sentimental tendencies. It is exactly the thing I love best about movies like It's a Wonderful Life and Mr Smith Goes to Washington - everyone banding together to overcome adversity through love and caring. It was set up extremely well, and I loved the imagery of the red of the curse being overcome by being taken on by everyone.
Thanks for a glorious and entertaining ride!

I'm so glad I scrolled all the way to the bottom, I'd forgotten about several of the brilliant bits early on from having read this over three days.

I LOVE the Sherbet Lemon with Phoenix Tears idea! There were so many aspects of this which would have been brilliant on their own and were even more so all put together, 'secret' wizarding enclave in Camden, the horrifying curse, Snape as a (temporary) tattoo artist, Umbridge taking over the MoM, the shower curtain of death (giggles insanely), Harry's sparkly hair; I loved the lot!

Brilliant brilliant story. :D

This story was so much fun to read, it had my smiling and even laughing out loud all the way through. Even through the darkest and most desperate times for Severus, chillingly and devastatingly described, there is this warmth in your writing, in your universe and radiating from Harry that is a joy. Harry is a complete joy. Even when he was mad on power, he was just wonderful. You guys create the most memorable AUs and this is no different, with a cast of characters and an eye for detail that is superb. The image and symbolism of the red right hand will go on far beyond the end of these games. An amazing story.
