Pir8, when you posted that you were done writing Snape-centric stories, I couldn't help myself, I cried out: "NO!" and despaired. You write him so completly alive. This was before I had read this story.
There is nothing like beginning a daunting workday, sitting in the spring sunshine, tears streaming down my face. As I approached the midpoint of your tale, I felt an "oh-oh" -- I am not going to get an easy, fantastic, hot Snape-gets-out-of-the-portrait-and-fucks-Harry-senseless giddy ride of fun. Oh, no, I could see you were going to address everything, make sense oout fo the whole mess of DH and everything leading up to it. For a while, I feared you would never have them make real contact. So, that was why I was weeping amid the pansies in the courtyard outside my office, when they finally rolled into that Slytherin four-poster, and I am now crying happy tears, and completely understand why you (might be) done...
I throw roses at your feet.

This is lush, and sad, and lovely, and I have stayed up far beyond my bedtime reading it.

I don't know just why, but something in all the recs and reviews I saw had me expecting dark!Ginny. I'm glad you didn't go there.

Snape's got a lot of nerve accusing Harry of martyrdom though. Big ol git.

OK, this was a Snarry masterpiece. I respect your decision to have it be the last--I can't imagine what else could possibly be said any better or more thoroughly or soul-searchingly than this. And all in a lovely, well-written, funny, sad, incredibly moving way. I suppose you could go wildly into some AU universe or cross-over or something to shake up every premise, but the strength of your stories is your unerring sense of Snape, and why tell his story on Mars or something. I am so completely satisfied and delighted with what you have accomplished.

I am so glad that Snape didn't come to life. I loved Harry's interacting with the portrait--the hands touching, taking it off the wall and hugging it, crying on it on the floor--so beautiful. I also loved the image of Snape stalking around all of the portraits in his classroom terrorizing students. And becoming the world's expert on everything, debating with popes, reading every book, writing the definitive textbook series--amazing what you can do if you never sleep. Now that bodes well for the happy reunion--imaging how much shagging they can do when they never sleep ;-) I also loved all of his advice--so spot-on, selfless, loving. And yet, Harry had to make his own mistakes. And live his life. Harry as Headmaster was also brilliant. Sigh. You RULE.

Now just tell us where you will be writing next, and I will dash into any 'verse you're hanging out in to read more.

Oh this was stunning. Just stunning. This was a beautiful exploration of human nature and relationships and an extremely stimulating read. I loved that you explored many of the under-explored themes and then added to much more in the look at their future. Brava!

This was simply gorgeous. I have to admit I was a bit leery because of the infidelity prompt but you handled it with grace. The progress of Snape's and Harry's relationship was well paced and kept me on the edge of my seat just waiting to see what was going to happen next. Fantastic fic, thank you for such an amazing read!

This was beautiful and amazing! I love the relationship between these two, and you have them perfectly characterized. You even made me like the kids! ;)

I almost felt like you were inside my mind - as you seemed to have the same issues with DH as I did. I loved Snape's anger towards Dumbledore, it felt very apropos.

I almost hate to mention this - as it's such a small thing with such a wonderful story - but there are quite a few typos and missing words/wrong word placement in this fic. Just a heads up if you plan on archiving.

And lastly - I adored the ending - Snape finally feeling Harry's hair! This fic really moved me, outstanding work! ;)

I truly don't even begin to have words for the brilliance behind this story. This was more than amazing. It made me laugh, it made me cry. Your characters were spot-on: you created the next generation in a way I've never seen them before. They were so real. Snape was so... so multi-dimensional, so true to canon. I am looking forward to reading this over & over again.

I really liked this, and that surprizes me considering how many things it held that normally turn a story bad for me. The infidelity, the angst, and the death were all appropriate, none of them were forced nor did you beat us over the head with them. I can't say it was perfect, but then again it was. They got their happy romantic happily ever after, so even if it was in death, it was a good ending!

Thank you!
Aery

Absolutely beautiful and very cathartic, not just for you but for anyone who reads this. I know we have differing opinions on HPDH, but your love for the characters came through.

I love all of the Marauder back history and that finally Harry had the missing pieces filled in. At the other end, I adored the relationship between Lily (Harry's daughter) and Professor Snape too.

The way you handled the rift between Dumbledore and Severus was inspiring. My heart warmed when Severus realised that Harry did understand who used him and why but still forgave.

The whole concept of Severus being the one who didn't leave Harry, who sacrificed his own peaceful death to make sure Harry had someone left to guide him, struck me to the core.

I know this was your swan song for this pairing and IMHO you touched the clouds.

Your story nearly made me cry when Snape abandoned Harry.

It's like they could never be together, even in the end after Harry died, it wasn't really Snape and Harry but shadows of themselves that were able to finally express their love.

It's so sad.

But a lovely story.

Darling, I've already read this twice since it was posted, and I almost never do that during the Games. I have always believed that as a mod, I have a responsibility to read and comment on every story, even if it is a short comment. This comment is nothing about responsibility; it is pure love.

First of all, allow me to say that I have a tremendous love for The Ghost & Mrs. Muir, both the movie and the tv show. There were many similarities here, but not in a derivative way; instead, it just goes to show the truthful, epic style in which you wrote this.

This story had the same tacit, implied love. Harry and Snape never had to say it aloud. They both knew that it would be a betrayal, of some kind, to steal that moment without touching. They needed that wall to be impenetrable, or the meaning of their lives would fall apart. Snape is the reason Harry cheated; the momentary allure of something to fill that gaping wound, a sop to the pain that only hurt more. It had nothing to do with Ginny, and he wasn't unfaithful to her, but to Snape. That's the truth of where his heart lies, and you needed that beautifully long intro to show it.

The moment in G&MM that broke my young teenaged heart was when she pursued a love with the children's book author, Mr. Fairley. When she discovers that he is married, she's not even hurt. She knew that she belonged to someone else, all that time, and she was as unfair as he was.

I didn't understand, as a teen, why she never saw anyone again, even though the Ghost left. I understand it now, and understand it even more after reading your story.

Love is the ultimate Truth; we can deny it, or hide it, run from it, and pretend to live without it. When it finds us, though, it changes us forever. Harry and Snape's love is so powerful that even Death cannot defeat it. We are made infinite, somehow, with love. It transcends.

Thanks for this wonderful story. I will treasure it.

As you know from the email I wrote when I was halfway through my sneaky-because-still-not-finished-writing-mine reading, I love your story. And you know what? I was honestly surprised to see the prompt for "infidelity" there when I finished reading because...okay, it's not as if I didn't notice, but it seemed so right for this story that I didn't see it as "a kink I don't like" but as "part of Harry and Snape's real life." Well done! I'm adding this to my recs page when I next update.

so as an h/d shipper, i haven't been keeping up with the games, as i am dreadfully behind on the worldcup as it is. but when i saw your story posted, i had to read it.

this was absolutely gorgeous. so much canon was hashed out in the most intense and satisfying way. the relationship between snape and harry developed so perfectly, and was so honest. minerva was delightfully written, and albus and lily were wonderfully three dimensional. the touching palms against the portrait nearly killed me, especially when snape and lily took up the tradition. so did harry's taking down the portrait to curl up against it. so many incredible, heart wrenching details.

the entire premise was truly original and felt entirely possible and probable in the hp universe--particularly having a wizard's debt with oneself. and i loved the parts about who would meet you when you died. the ending was just right, and i loved that harry was back to being a blushing 40 year old.

a serious masterpiece.

I'm amazed that I could enjoy a fic with the 'infidelity' prompt so much. This was a fantastic story with a wealth of detail, emotion, suppressed emotion, angst, amusement, friendships, sundered friendships, renewed friendships, and a long-earned reward which makes for a good excuse to get away with squeeing at the end.

Huzzah!

This is the best Severus I have ever read, and absolutely the most plausible.

What a wonderful story! Thank you for sharing your enormous talent with all of us.

I've been reccing this to everyone and I just realized I haven't commented yet!!! Silly me.

I love this fantastic story. I love the wit and the point of view. I love the epic feel and the love story. I LOVE LOVE LOVE that Albus Serverus had a crush on Draco. gah! I love you forever for that.

I love that Harry waited and Snape tried his best to make him not wait. You gave fantastic Snape and fantastic Harry and wonderful explanations of all those bits of canon that never quite made sense to me. Great great great fic.

Wonderful, wonderful. And yes, I think you're done now.

You know what a HFN whore I am - always will be! - and TBL and HW:G&E are brilliant pieces of work too. But this, this feels different somehow. Slower. More complete. Maybe "inevitable" is the word I want. Ever listen to the second movement of Beethoven's 7th, where it builds and builds like an implacable command? Like that. Like Ludwig van fucking Beethoven.

I finally managed to find words to talk about this story in your journal (as I'm sure you know by now). I love this story. I have it set aside to read again, because it's not the kind of story that I only want to read once.

I have a feeling that this one will kick Let's Pretend out of its slot as my favourite of your stories.

I love that Snape traps himself - for the best of reasons - and remains his own worst enemy after death. And that Harry somehow figures out how to have a relationship with him - overcoming so many obstacles, even Snape's objections and determined absence.
