TEAM PHOENIX ENTRY: Pir8fancier "Stilllife"
Title: Stilllife
Author: [info]pir8fancier
Team: Phoenix
Genre: Post-war
Prompt: Miles to go before I sleep, Infidelity
Word Count: 37,155
Ratings/Warnings/Kinks: R
Summary: Snape is killed by Voldemort. But not really.
Author's Note: My usual stunning beta, [info]regan_v did the honors; my love for Snape is second to none. Except her. I heart her very, very much. This turned from a simple concept into a monster, so all errors, etc., are mine.

I actually liked this too much & was so moved that I can't comment with any coherence. It was wonderful.

I think you caputred the characters and their motivations perfectly and, other said it better than I ever could, tie JKR's losse strands. That part was really enjoyable to read, after...

Well, I am the last to be picky and my own use of the English language (as it is not my mothertongue) is nowhere near perfect, but especially the first part is riddled with typos. No real mistakes but things written together or jumbled. The second slight complaint I want to make ist that, even if your perfekt handling of the charakter's natures involved, the storyline itself leaves me kind of cold. I cannot really express what it is exactly that made me frown but, for me at least, there was something missing. Your story isn't action packed, that's not in its nature, but there was no real deep emotional excitement transported to me, the reader. Not about making peace with Dumbledore, not about the occuring deaths. It might be that PaintedSnape simply lacks the fullrange temper and feelings LivingSnape would express, but- maybe the best analogy would be reading the Illiad aloud in the same tone of voice?
Or it might be just my own failing at 'getting IT'

Thank you for the great read!

*awe*

I am always shocked when I enjoy a first person point of view. This one was brilliant. I really am struggling to sum up exactly what it was that I loved about this, which is probably a sign that everything about it was magnificent. I try not to be a fangirl about my comments, but this fic really is a triumph :D

I saw your name. I sighed. (Why do you have to be on the Other team?!) I hit print.

So, what can I say that hasn't already been said? I loved it, that I do have to say.

I loved the concept. I loved the characterisations. I loved the relationship between Harry and Severus, the yelling, the screaming, the coughing, the reluctant acknowledgments that the other was right. Their working together, the books.

Minerva and Severus, what a team. Even if she needs to drink to get up the next morning and deal with Hogwarts.

Severus and AD (not to confuse this one with AS): I still don't like AD. Though your explanations of why he did what he did are...acceptable. But I still don't like him.

Draco: still Draco, but not.

Harry and Draco: OMG! And to be found out the way they were! No wonder Harry remained celibate at Hogwarts after that!

Harry and his relationships with his children. Very real, thank you.

James...My father likes you. I don't. (Loved Severus's response.) And the American wife no one likes.

AS... Poor kid. In love with Draco Malfoy. Well, we all have to have one unrequited love in our lives. AS and Teddy? Hmmmm, well, through University, I guess. After that????

Lily. Lily! OMG! Severus in drag! I *adored* their relationship! The daughter Severus never had! And I wonder how Draco felt when she married his son.

The children and Harry. Also real. Their varied acceptance of their parents' marriage, their father's homosexuality...(Though I did wonder if the reason James goes off to America is to put distance between himself and his father???)

As for Harry and Severus...all those years waiting...both of them. I hooted when Harry had his portrait done when he was 42. Severus is 38. Harry is older than Severus (yes, obvious, but what a hoot!).

And the fact that Severus can't sleep. What bait to hook your readers!

I was delighted at the end when Harry invades Severus's portrait...and that he has a bed painted in his. (See, he had been listening to Severus's complaints!)

Yes, I hope they do find pleasure in each other, happiness as well. And whether it's one year or ten...or more... Well, very wide grin. (To balance out the tears I shed when Severus tells us that no one was there for him when he died. THAT was horribly heartbreaking.)

You don't go in the bedtime reader binder: you have your own which is usually by the bedside. (Oh, loved the anti-American cracks...which was a greater hoot since I had read Home Fries Nazi -- and it's pro-Americanism -- earlier in the week!)

Absolutely amazing story, you moved me to tears on several occasions. I loved all the detail you put into Snape's half-life. Heartbreaking but a heart-warming ending.

oh what a wonderful story! severus and harry are depicted with such detail... and the years passing by and arr poor severus waiting for his final death and harry making mistakes.. it's all so wondefully real. their romance takes time and finds only its happy end in death as portraits. even the infidelity bit, while sad and heart- breaking considering severus feelings, was bearable and lovely written. and as you can see I write only gibberish, so: thank you for a great story!

This is the only fic I've come across so far where I wished there was a rating higher than 9.
I loved the concept and it was so well written I couldn't tear my eyes from the screen. I loved how Snape would exile himself for the rest of their lives, how Harry and Draco make mistakes but suffer the consequences rather than running away, and that even after a lifetime it still had a happy ending.
I actually ached at some parts and even as I read it, wished it wouldn't end. A really superb story.

This, this has been the fic I've been waiting for. I've read alot of great fics in this Games, but none of them have been really up my alley. But this long, drawn out story of unrequited love was just amazingly wonderful.

"For this man before me must star, finally, in a drama of his own making, not a puppet whose strings were jerked mercilessly around the stage, Albus and Voldemort handing the control bar back and forth."

The eloquence and clarity of perception you had Snape display in his portrait was just as I'm sure many imagine him to be, minus the ability to stomp off, robes flaring ;) You rock.

Wow -- here's another very original look at Snape's death and survival. Se and Harry's long years together was illustrated quite well, and I also liked the glimpses of Draco. The idea that Sev would died but not still be stuck between life and death is chilling, and I don't think that has been used much. Kudos!

Wow, this was quite the epic. Captivating, really moving and so many other things.

I enjoyed following Harry's life and Snape's portrait life through the years and watching their relationship develop to a rewarding and satisfying ending.

Some of the things I loved best: Snape's and McGonagall's relationship. (And the resolution with Dumbledore.) All the details about living in a portrait. Snape's realisation of why he couldn't move on (a very intense emotional moment). The fact that our loved ones wait for us at the other side. Harry's children (especially Lily!) All the bits of ironic humour throughout. Headmaster Harry. I think my favourite part of the story was the years when Snape was assistant headmaster (and from there to the end.)

The whole story was an intense emotional ride. Well done!

The longest bit of foreplay in the world. Or at least portrait-dom.

It's ironic that your portrait!Snape is so much more three dimensional than canon!Snape. I loved your characterizations of the whole mob.

Wonderful job!

That was also pretty awesome and mind-blowing. I admit that I didn't like the beginning -- was too slow for me, but by the end I was completely in love. Thank you very much!

Incredible, what you do with Snarry--with all of your HP fanfiction, really. Once again you bring forth hidden facets of characters we think we know so well and we are dazzled! Your Snape and Harry in this story make me ache with seeing their humanity. Snape is nothing short of a masterpiece. His integrity, intelligence, perception, emotional depth, humor...it almost hurts that I cannot know him in RL. And your Harry, in all his fumblings and fits and starts, has the unimpeachable intuition and wisdom which can only come from a generous and loving heart. Magnificent.

Thank you for this wonderful story which, more than anything else, brought a brilliant and fitting closure to the saga of the life of Severus Snape. If his creator could only see the reverence with which you treat him, and the loving response that reverence evokes, she might begin to understand our devotion. Alas...

I had hoped to express all of the ways in which your gift touched me but I see I've fallen woefully short of that goal. All I am really able to say is that I am very sincerly moved. Love is the most I have to offer. Please accept it with my admiration and gratitude.

I have no words for this fic, my tear started to fall down when I read Lily and Snape have become friends. I don't understand how you managed this level of intensity with such harmless plot and lively writing, but it was truly wonderfully done.

If only I could score you a 99........

It's a tad bit of an understatement to say I loved this story. I almost don't ever want to read another, as this one contained, without any doubt whatsoever, the most perfect and absolute complete Severus Snape possible.

There's nothing more I can say. Bravo to you. And thank you.

I've loved all your portrayals of Snape in various Snarries, and this one is no exception. I felt like I was privy to a journey of Snapes with your stories -- End-of-Book-5!Snape (Home Fries Nazi), End-of-Book-6!Snape (last years' Snarry Games fic), and now, post-canon!Snape. You gave a canon stickler like me a glimpse of the possibilities out there to still explore Snape (and Snarry) despite the very real restrictions posed by the end of Book 7 and the Epilogue, and I've definitely enjoyed the ride :)

Excellent story, with some truly brilliant moments between Snape and Harry. Thank you.

This was just wonderful. I couldn't stop reading, and know I shall re-read it, although it's incredibly painful - the longing, both Severus and Harry not being able to have what they want, Severus' determination that Harry should stand by his family, the awful pain they both felt when Severus found Harry and Malfoy together - all so very skillfully done. And that doesn't touch on Snape's wonderful voice, and his interaction with Dumbledore and Minerva and the children...I feel like my heart has been grabbed in my chest. Very powerful.
Phew! I'm only just getting my breath back and I'm sorry to be incoherent.
Thank you.

This is great. I love the way you dealt with the infidelity, and *really* love how you dealt with the unhappiness in his marriage. Snape's advice was, well, harsh, but perfect.

The kids were great. Snape and James (junior) entertained me no end, but Snape and Lily (junior) were great. I love the personalities you gave the kids. And the world travels. And the reason he couldn't sleep. And everything. :)

What a lovely, epic story! I loved this Snape so much, insisting that Draco marry Astoria and that Harry honor his marriage vows. And I adored Snape's relationship with Harry's kids - - Lily especially.
