The trouble with Harry
Characters: Ron, Harry and Hermione
Summary: Immediately after the end of this scene
Ron looked across the room just in time to see Harry facing the Veil, a faint glow emanating from him and then...then...
It seemed to take Harry forever to fall. An eternity that lasted just a few seconds as Ron pushed and shoved his way towards him. He must've called for Hermione because he felt her close beside him, but he hadn't paused to look. Rush as he did through the mass of fighters, he still didn't make it in time to catch him before he hit the floor.
Ron's heart stuttered and froze in his chest at the sight, his own breathing stilled in dread and fear until he found a pulse at Harry's neck.
"All right," he told Hermione. "He's all right. Breathing and all. But we've got to get him out of here."
One hand still on Harry's shoulder, Ron looked around at the various people being rounded up and led off now the fighting had stopped. He'd heard a fair few pops of Disapparition around him once the ghosts had started to to disappear into the veil. He'd seen Malfoy's mother dragged backwards into it, kicking and screaming the entire way. The smugness he'd felt at first glance faded quickly, though. No one deserved that. Thankfully, not all the Death Eaters had made good their escape. There were plenty left to answer for the night's events. Good ending all around, that.
He cast one contemptuous glance at the Veil, now stationary and quiet thank God, before standing and hefting Harry into a fireman's carry.
"I don't think we'll be missed if we take him ourselves. They'll," he indicated the Aurors now turning up, "know where to find us if they need us."
