Who: Flash and Gwen
Where: chicken coop
When: recentlyish
What: finding stray chickens
Rating: mild, cussing

The past couple of weeks had been hard, but Flash was really good at dodging people when he needed to. Venom could only be attached to him for 48 hours or things got weird. When there was no Venom, there were no legs and Flash didn't want anyone to see him like that. So he had his room, he stayed out of sight and pretended things were cool. It was working so far, but he really wanted to see Gwen. He wanted to see Gwen and not start blubbering like an idiot over her. That required Venom's help.

Flash would have liked to be vegetarian. Pisca-whateverian even. But, Venom needed protein. He needed food and leaves weren't going to cut it. Flash knew the second Venom saw those chickens, there would be poking thoughts about ripping the feathered dinosaurs to pieces with his teeth. He'd obsess over chickens. Non stop chicken dishes would start springing to mind. Venom was good at poking the anger bear that slumbered in Flash's head. So, here's what Flash did. He went into one of those doors people were telling him about. He ate (stole) like ten bowls of rice, one entire roasted Farfetch'd, had five lemonades on the roof and somehow managed to not eat a Slowpoke tail. A good day, if you asked him.

So, there. He was ready to catch chickens that had escaped from the coop. Venom wasn't even interested in the thought of chicken anymore after trying a real Pokemon for lunch. Flash could appear totally fucking normal.

He looked normal, as normal as he could. He wore a black shirt with jeans, a black baseball cap and that was it. Venom had transformed into normal clothing while ensuring that Flash could still walk around and appear 100% fine by most people's standards. Flash was already working on the coop, noticing that there were some fencing that needed to be repaired. Kneeling, he twisted some of the new wire fencing in and occasionally threw seeds to the obedient, good chicken who didn't escape into the woods.

Adventuring into the Pokemon world had been exactly what Gwen needed to sort of bring her out of her sadness from missing her friend. Quality time with Tony and Natasha was helping too, of course. Having a Pokemon of her own was really cool too, and had given her even more of a purpose now that she had something to take care of. Right now said Pokemon was asleep at home, as Gwen had explained she was going out but would be back and she felt like her little companion understood what that meant.

Having gone for a walk, she heard a little bit of a commotion which caught her interest. There were some clucking sounds, so she figured there had to be some loose chickens around.

When she found one pecking around on the ground, she walked up to it and crouched down. "Hey there," she said, not that it made a difference. "We gotta get you back to your coop, little lady." When the chicken started to dart away from her, Gen used her enhanced abilities to catch it. "Yeah, sorry. I'm faster." She held it out a little so it couldn't peck her face and carried it to where she knew the chicken coop was located.

When she got there, she saw someone kneeling and doing what looked like some fence repair. Upon further inspection, she saw someone who looked kind of familiar, but different. Flash Thompson was someone she knew in her world, though this one was different. He was someone she'd wanted to catch up with, but as what seemed to be the case in this town, other things kept getting in the way.

"Hey," she said. "Looks like there are some escape artists in town." Gwen approached and leaned over the fence so she could put the chicken back in.

Flash didn't recognize the voice at first. The last time he saw Gwen, they were in the hallways before science class. Flash was doing something stupid to make her late and she rolled her eyes at him before darting off into a much more advanced lesson than his basic chemistry. Then she was gone, you know? Gone, gone. But, now she was Gwen, Gwen and she was here, here.

He looked up and swiveled his cap backwards to see her place the chicken back in its home. "Holy shit, hi." Flash knew she was different. She kinda looked different, but not enough for it to be a stranger. It was still Gwen. He felt his eyes start to water and he quickly rubbed them on his t-shirt in hopes she didn't notice. Like it was just dirt or something, right?

"Hey, Gwen. Hey." He stood and put his hand out. A handshake felt weird, but most people didn't want a hug from Flash after all these years. "Nice catch. I can't decide if we should name the chickens or if that's fucked up. Plus, we might need a rooster."

Gwen knew that look. She knew it and she understood it because there had been plenty of times she'd given that look. When she saw other versions of Peter Parker, it was impossible to hide it no matter how much she tried. She saw her best friend, but it wasn't really him. He was dead. Flash, this Flash, must have come from one of the worlds where she was dead. The brief exchange they'd shared made her think he must know about the multi-verse, though that didn't matter much. But he seemed to know there were other versions of himself and was aware that Flash Thompson could be a dick. And in her world, he was. He used to be one of her best friends, but that all changed.

Gwen had told him she wouldn't hold that against him. He wasn't the Eugene she knew. She couldn't hold that grudge here. She wouldn't do that. It wouldn't be fair. That said, if he was an asshole to her here, then she all bets were off.

When he stuck his hand out, Gwen's eyebrows rose. It was a safe greeting. It kept the vulnerability away. For now, she was all about that. So he took his hand and shook it. "Hey, Flash. It probably would be kind of morbid to name them. You need any help out here? I think there were more chickens in the woods." They'd talked about getting together and catching up with each other. What better way than to go chicken hunting?

"I mean, maybe we can just eat them when they naturally die of natural old age." Flash looked down at one of the chickens who clucked back at him. "I could eat fresh eggs for the rest of my life instead, yeah?" The chicken did not show any signs of approval, only desire for more seed. He threw a little more in and then replaced the plastic cover before putting it back with the tools. Being a farm guy the rest of his life wasn't what he imagined, even if he would probably be great at it. Manual labor was made for guys like Flash.

"Yeah, let's see if there's any that haven't already been eaten by zombies." Flash didn't know if there were zombies in this universe, but the town was set up like every video game he played about them. "I'm hoping for the slow moving zombies, but it's like everyone wants to do the fast running ones now. Okay, I get they're more dangerous, but they are less creepy." Flash rambled and turned to grin at her as they headed into the woods.

"Tell me about yourself, Stacy."

"Yeah, I could, too. I'd rather have corndogs, though." It was always going to be a little weird seeing versions of people she knew who weren't the actual people she knew. Peter, obviously, would be the weirdest. Flash was definitely up there, though. Only because of their past. But it wasn't hard to differentiate between them. That was the easy part. The hard part was keeping away feelings that came with the memories of those she did know. But she was doing decently right now.

"Slow moving zombies are way better," she agreed. "At least in terms of our survival likelihood." She smirked a little. She walked beside him, heading for the treeline. It felt, oddly familiar but still foreign at the same time.

"Okay, but you gotta clarify. Are you going for the more cliff notes, teenage girl who plays drums bitten by radioactive spider, or do you really want the in depth stuff?" She asked. "I don't want to lay it all on you if this is just a 'hey, how's it going? good, cool, see you around town' thing or if you want to.. I mean, if you really want to know me." Gwen didn't want to get too heavy in her story if he was just trying to be nice.

"I want to get to know you." Flash said, cocking his head to the side like he wasn't sure if he had done something wrong. He figured this could be a symptom of people thinking they knew him because of another Flash, but it seemed like something else. Gwen had been through some shit, was the best he could tell. "I wanna be friends and shit. I always- yeah." He nodded, looking at her with sincere blue eyes until he thought she believed him.

The other stuff made him stop in his tracks, mouth hanging open. "Wait, what? You got bit by a spider?" His voice raised louder, more surprised, "You play the DRUMS?" Flash's Gwen liked science and wearing skirts. A rock band wasn't really her style.

Gwen didn't mean to come off as accusatory. But it was just one of those things she needed to be sure of before she went down the rabbit hole with Flash. It was like when most people asked in passing how you were. They expected you to say fine, and then they moved on. They didn't want to hear, 'oh, I'm struggling to balance my alter ego and dealing with being accused and have a warrant out for my arrest for my best friend's murder, how are you?' And she didn't want to just toss that weight onto Flash's shoulders if he didn't want to take it. If he just wanted to hear she was a drummer and her world's Spider person and leave it at that, she could do that. If he wanted more, then she needed to know that too so she could mentally prepare herself, too.

She smiled a little when he said he wanted to know her. Gwen knew she was a lot different than her other world counterparts. Although she'd not met them personally yet, she knew about the science brainiac stuff and being a bit more on the girly side. She also knew other Gwens had a tendency to not live that long.

Gwen paused when he stopped, and turned to look at him. "Yeah," she said, to answer his questions in one word. "It bit me right here." She pointed to a place on her hand. "I'm the Spider person in my world," she said. "Spider-Woman." She shrugged a little. It was a big deal; it was becoming more and more her whole life back home, not just half. But here? It wasn't that grand. Everyone had a story here. And really? That made her feel a million times better. She liked being one of many, even if doing things alone was definitely a a 'Spider' thing.

"Before that, and I guess after too, I've been the drummer in an all girl rock band. The Mary Janes. We had a song go viral. It was pretty cool. Even if Em Jay is kind of a nut job." She smirked a little at that. All annoyances aside, Gwen did miss the girls. She missed when her biggest stressor was Em Jay barking at her about rehearsals or rushing a beat.

"There's um.. A lot more," she said. "Like, a lot a lot. But I take it the Gwen from your world was more into school work and stuff, right?"

"Spider-Woman. Damn, that's cool." He nodded, thinking it suited her. Being a Spider-Person was a big deal to him. Flash had, after all, chased being Spider-Man since he was a teenager. Even his Venom suit, the real one, looked like a Doom Guy version of spidey himself. He still wasn't technically a Spider-Anything, though, and he was still trying to figure out what kind of super he actually was. "You're dad still police captain, huh?" Flash asked. He played with his baseball cap, turning it sideways and then back again. Her dad was a good dude, great cop. His dad? Not so much.

"MJ was in your band, too? Holy shit." He grinned at her and chuckled. "Yeah, actually being a band makes sense for her. You? Still not sold on it, Stacy." He teased, bumping his shoulder against hers.

She said there was more and he nodded. He knew what that meant. He had a big and more too and was glad they weren't there yet. As much as he wanted to get to know her, to have a friend in this fucked up little town, it was tough opening up those scary boxes with a big VENOM across the top.

"She was really into science. You like science? She gave Parker a run for his money. Didn't brag about it either. Just kinda helped and got shit done. Really respected that."

It amused her the more she learned about how different she was in some ways from other Gwens in different worlds. She'd never met another Gwen Stacy, but she sounded like she was a good person and that was really all she cared about in the grand scheme of things. If she was a brainiac then that was cool. In all honesty, Gwen, this Gwen, was actually highly intelligent too. She just had different priorities. But her smarts had helped her evade the police for so long, and had her outsmarting those who were trying to thwart her or even hurt her.

"I liked school a lot," she said. But I kinda had to shift focus when I got bit. I liked science, but Peter was smarter. I liked listening to him talk about all that stuff." She could remember those days with fondness, if not some sadness too. "And yeah, my dad was the police captain. Actually, he was the one in charge of tracking me down to arrest Spider-Woman." She sighed. Time to tell the story again.

"It's kind of a long story. See, when I first started out as Spider-Woman, I was doing little things to help out that got me a lot of attention. People liked Spider-Woman and it felt really good," she said. "Peter was kind of obsessed about it. Not so much Spider-Woman, just, how I got so much attention and how special I was. He didn't know it was me, but you know what I mean." She looked up at the sky for a moment. "He was getting picked on. Like, really bad. I stepped in a lot, but it didn't stop it from happening. Anyway, I guess Peter was trying to think of a way to put a stop to it his own way, and to get the same kind of attention. You have a Lizard-man type creature in your world? Because in mine, it was Peter. He got out of control and I had to.. I had to stop him." This was the part she didn't want to talk about. This was the part that never got any easier, she was never numb to it. It broke her heart every time.

"I had to fight him, Flash," she said. "And I kept trying -- I told him I'd fix everything, that we'd make it all right again. But he wouldn't stop. So I kept fighting him and I guess I.. I hit him too hard and he fell. He turned back into himself so I ran over to him and tried to wake him up." Gwen felt her eyes stinging. "He reached up and touched my face. He said 'I just wanted to be special like you.' And then he was gone. I killed my best friend." She took a shaky breath and wiped her eyes with her sleeve. "The police came right then, and saw me with him. They assumed I murdered him. I guess, maybe I did -- I didn't mean to, but he died because of me. And then everyone accused me of murder. News articles ran like wildfire. My own dad launched an investigation and had a team out trying to find me. I eventually had to tell him who I was because he had a gun aimed at my head when he caught me. He let me go, but the stress from it all has really hurt our relationship. I keep trying to do go, you know? I try to help people and make the world safer. But it's like I do one great thing and then ten bad things happen right after so people forget the good things and just bring up the murder again."
