WHO: Dick Grayson, Clark Kent
WHAT: Catching a falling bird
WHERE: Town
WHEN: 29 April
RATING: Low, probably. Will update if needed.

As nice as the vines and trees to be swung from were, the little wizard hadn't gotten it nearly high enough for a guy who was used to training on skyscrapers. Dick made a mental note to ask Peter to talk to his wizard boyfriend at some point to see if they could get some more height on it.

Out of uniform and perched on the tallest building in town (still not much of an accomplishment,) Dick stretched and glanced at his next target. There was an unoccupied house within a fairly long, but easy leap. He could make it no problem.

Or at least under normal circumstances, he could. As he started his leap off the roof, a loose shingle shifted under his foot completely ruining his trajectory and momentum. As he fell, he instinctively went for a grappling hook he didn't have on him.

He was going to have to twist if he wanted to land with minimal harm. Even then he was pretty sure this was going to end in injury. How severe would be up to that infamous bat-luck.

Clark was out and about. There wasn't much to do in a place like this where life was... Well, certainly slower than his life in Smallvile which was...surprising. At least in Smallville, there were things to do. Here? Here he found himself at a loss--uncertain what he was supposed to do with himself. At least in Smallville, he had a farm. Making a farm, here, felt a little too much like resigning to one's fate. As if they'd never get out and back home and it was too early for Clark to do that.

So, instead, he roamed. He memorized every inch of the place. Memorized the faces of the people who were here, though, new ones were arriving all the time (and that was, quite, concerning). He wondered how it was that it happened. Sometimes he wondered if they were aboard a ship like Brainiac's. He was tempted to believe this was part of, perhaps, his plan, but seeing people from various multiverses had put a kebosh on that. And, with his X-Ray vision, nothing was revealed.

He was about to head home when he heard something familiar -- a single scraping loose followed by a yelp. On instinct, he flew into action. Costume change. Speed run. Launch into the sky. And he was swooping in and catching someone mid-air, hovering up in the sky above the their little village and roof tops. He offered the young man in his arms a nod and trademark smile.

"You should be more careful, son," he said as he slowly descended to the ground. "I'm not entirely sure we're equipped with the tech to deal with serious injuries."

Bat-luck seemed to be coming through in spades that day. It wasn't the first time someone in a bright blue suit had flown in at the nick of time to keep his skull from getting intimate with the pavement.

"Thanks for the assist, big blue, my hero," he said, putting the back of one hand on his forehead and swooning in his arms as dramatically as he could. He trusted Clark not to just drop him. He moved his hand to give him a charming, playful smile and- "Oh shit, you're way younger than you should be." He twisted just a little to double check. Yeah, that was the right S. Just not the right face to go with that S. Two people from home and neither of them from his timeline. Did this Supes even know him?

Oh god, what if he was still ten and running around in pixie boots? He really wasn't going to live that down.

Oh, so he was a jokester. Well, he supposed it was better than someone who was sobbing or angrily fighting to be dropped. Those had always been awkward encounters. Still, the more the man talked--the more Clark realized he seemed to recognize him. Or, even more confusing, knew him. He tilted his head as he touched ground, loosening his grip to allow the man to slip out of his arms carefully and back onto the ground.

He tilted his head, a bit, in that patented Confused but damn Charming way of his and asked: "I'm sorry. Do we know each other?" He chuckled, plastering on that sparkling smile, the one that told people a) everything was going to be fine and b) aw, shucks, ma'am, I just want to help. If it were on anyone else, it would seem disingenuous. But Clark? Clark meant it through and through. "You clearly know me," he began, "which I suppose is a bit of a relief after being stuck in a place no one seems to." He let out a chuckle, placing his hands on his hips.

Dick hopped down nimbly enough, bouncing a little on his toes to test his joints. Nothing twisted or sore. That was a relief.

"I guess the answer's not yet, but in time," he said, smiling up at the man. He hooked one thumb in his belt loop at his hip and extended his other hand. "But it's not fair if I keep the advantage like this for so long. Dick Grayson. Good to see you. Meet you. Whichever works best for you."

Clark, generally, wasn't a fan of feeling off-kilter. He supposed, though, in a world like this it was unavoidable. He took the other man's hand and gave it a firm shake. "Nice to meet you," he replied. "Are you from Metropolis?" Not that he wasn't known in other areas of the world, but based on how familiar Dick seemed to treat him, he figured it was a little more than just in passing.

"Have you been here for very long?" he asked as signalled toward the town. "I've only been here for a little over a week. Certainly takes some getting used to, doesn't it?"

"Gotham," he said, glad to have Metropolis on the table so he knew he wasn't dealing with actual Smallville Clark. He did still seem pretty fresh faced, though.

"I've been around for a few months now. It takes some getting used to, but once you learn to let go of all the questions it gets a bit easier. Not that I don't still wanna know, but like, keeping curiosity is different than letting the unknowns consume you."

Gotham.

That, certainly, made things more interesting. The name didn't quite ring a bell. The only Grayson he knew was from the circus that came into town once when he was a kid. But in bigger cities, though, there were probably a ton of them. The world was, certainly, not that small. The idea, itself, was comical.

Clark chuckled a bit. As a reporter, he knew all about curiosity. "It's certainly more peaceful than Gotham."
