Jack gasped and flailed as he came back to life. He opened his eyes to an unfamiliar landscape. He sat up slowly and regulated his breathing and waited for his heart rate to return to normal. Once he felt that he could stand, he did so and opened his vortex manipulator. He pressed a few buttons, but the readout didn't make any sense and he closed it and wandered over to the table in the middle of the square.

	"Rose is here?" Jack beamed. "I didn't think I'd ever see her again." Rose had always been a brightness in a sometimes dark world. "So what exactly do we do now that we're here? I assume you're trying to find a way for us to leave? Is the TARDIS here? And what's with this table in the middle of the square?" Jack was a man with a million questions. "Me either! It's brilliant, though!" Thirteen was grinning ear to ear at the notion of reuniting two of her favorite companions again. Well...that wasn't fair. They were all her favorites, really.

She sighed and shook her head. "No sign of my TARDIS- disappeared before I could even stop her. Oh! Yes!" The Doctor walked over to the table, picking up the phone and marching back to Jack to hand it to him. "This is a device to help you communicate with others around here. This place- I'm still piecin' it together, but all sorts of other people are trapped here. Just like us. No idea why, though. Or what connects us."

She'd been trying to work that out for a while. That's what she was talking to Tony about. "I have some ideas, though. Was about to meet up with the town's leader to talk about 'em."

Jack took the phone, examined it briefly and placed it in his pocket. "Shame about the TARDIS."

Leader? Jack wondered how that had come about in a place where people just appear out of nowhere.

"Want any company? My schedule seems to have freed right up." Jack's smile faltered for a minute and he closed his eyes as a wave of dizziness swept over him.

"Whoah." He reached out for the Doctor's arm to steady himself.

She frowned and reached out quickly to stead him, inspecting the poor man before reaching into her pocket with her free arm and doing a scan. The Doctor stared at the screwdriver and sighed. "Or maybe we can stop for a rest and a cuppa, yeah?" She knew just the place!

Well, not really. "I gotta flat just up the road. Let's go there. You can rest up and I'll be back in a jiff to check up and maybe update you on the stats- oh! Should mention I use the word Jiff now. And dude." She grinned and started walking him back down towards the barren room she called a "flat"- it was really just a mattress and a bunch of paper scattered about with a lot of writing on the walls. If anyone other than Rose and Jack saw it, they might think she was truly mental.

"Sorry. Woke up here after a pretty nasty fight. Pretty certain I died." Jack looked worriedly over at the Doctor. He knew she didn't approve of his immortality.

"That plus ending up here must've taken more out of me than I thought."

Jack chuckled. "Dude, huh?"

Jack followed the Doctor back to her room. "Working on something?" He looked at what was written on the walls.

The Doctor rolled her eyes. "No surprise there." She was grinning, though. Almost any other being and she'd have been concerned. But this was Jack Harkness, one of a handful of immortals she knew. He'd always land back on his feet.

Well...for the most part.

"It's all a bit disjointing when you first wind up here. You'll get used to it, though."

She smiled proudly and looked around. "Yeah. Somethin' like that! We had a theory- well, I had a theory, but it seems to match with what a few others are thinkin'. This place might be able to be controlled- if we can steer it, maybe we can put everyone back where they need to be. I was just on my way to meet with a couple of others to talk about it, actually."

And now she was running a little late, but it was worth it to help Jack.
