Who: Anyone who wants to come by
What: Grand-opening party!
Where: Pancho's Bar
When: Friday Night

The streamers were up (because Jan had insisted), and the bar was as ready as it ever would be. Alcohol was stored in a few make-shift shelves on the back wall and a relatively well-cobbled together bar was freshly polished and ready to go. It wasn't the most well-put-together, place, but Pancho's definitely resembled its namesake in terms of dim lighting, chipped tables and a floor that looked like it should be sticky. All in all, Carol was pretty proud of what they'd made. The minifridge was even a good choice since it allowed them to keep some drinks cold (they were going to have to find a larger one in the future, though).

She had warned Peter that the pizza oven needed to be ready by that evening, but she wasn't sure how on the ball with that he was. She'd been busy doing damage control on some electrical issues they were having with the fridge and double checking to make sure they actually had drinking cups (that took a little bit of maneuvering, but Clint came through with the coffee mugs). Yup, vodka from coffee mugs, a mini-fridge filled with a variety of stolen beers, and mismatched chairs. And, of course, the balloons. The annoying, awful squeaky balloons that had floated into a couple of corners of the room, save for the two that kept dragging on the floor and that Carol dreaded would pop at some point that evening. Definitely professional.

Karaoke was set up in one corner of the room with a make-shift stage and Christmas lights (Yes, more Christmas lights) decorating around it. Old 80s rock music blasted from the speakers for now, and Carol stood behind the bar, ready to serve as needed but more than willing to drag anyone else into the position should they so choose that evening.

It wouldn't have been exactly fair to say that Evaan had been drawn by the scent of alcohol. After all, she was still a typical-ish sort of human even if she didn't come from this 'Earth' everyone had talked about. No, it was probably a little worse than that. She'd seen the post about the bar going up and while she hadn't done anything more than linger on it or check back every so often, she had been keeping an eye on it and the progress of their work. Once it was finished and people started drifting in, Evaan found herself going back and forth on joining them.

She hadn't had a drink in ages, not since Chandrila, or maybe before that, her memory of the nights she spent there were fuzzy at best. She hadn't been truly social since rejoining the Navy either, at the time everyone had been full of questions, mostly having to do with how she'd been impeached after punching Jora Astane in the face. Her fellow officers may have given her a pat on the back for punching a species purist, but Astane had still been an old woman and it hadn't looked great in the holos. The whole thing had caused herself to isolate herself a bit, but now, here in Starklandia, it wouldn't be a concern. No one knew and as long as she didn't tell anyone, it would stay that way.

So maybe one drink wouldn't be so bad. What was the worst that could happen? She might end up having more than one and tell everybody about the time she punched a bigot in the face? She could deny it ever happened later. That she might get a little too buzzed and let Stark have a look at her weapons? That wouldn't be such a problem, as long as he didn't blow himself up. It wasn't like she was wearing her blaster that night anyway.

It was fine. It was all fine. She could manage only one, right? She slipped past several of her new neighbors and went to the bar, deciding then that maybe two drinks would be okay as long as they had something decent. Surely Earth knew about decent alcohol, right?

Carol was definitely having a good time. She was a little more into the whiskey and scotch than she should have been, considering she was running this place, but things were going fine. Peter had it handled and Tony was going to get a ride home with the Captain (sorta).

When Evaan walked up to the Bar, Carol smiled and nodded to the new face. Funny, she didn't recognize her (she was definitely someone would have recognized). She did her best not to look like she was staring, which was a bit harder considering she had been drinking quickly that night in hopes of feeling a little more than buzzed, but she played it cool.

"Hey there. What're you having?" Yup. Smooth. "I haven't seen you around before, I'm Carol." She held out her hand and smiled.

There was something vaguely suspicious about the fact that nearly everyone in Starklandia was attractive. It was something that probably should be looked into but for the moment, when one of said attractive people was smiling at her and offering her hand, it could wait. She was sure she'd had a dream like this once or twice, a watering hole that had more charm than polish, some kind of half pleasant background music and a beautiful woman offering her a drink. She wasn't a twi'lek or a zeltron, and maybe the alcohol was brighter, but she wasn't going to get fussy when the universe was offering her something nice for once.

Or maybe just a view of something nice. She didn't want to presume, that would lead to the universe punishing her. She would appreciate it for what it was and not tempt fate.

"Evaan," She smiled back and took her hand, hoping with all that she was that Carol was offering her a handshake and not some kind of Earth-specific greeting. Of course, if she had and Evaan had screwed it up, she figured there was still time for her to go crawl under what was left of her hyperdrive and shoot it until it blew and saved her from her embarrassment. "Good to meet you, Carol. And you may have to be patient with me. Not exactly local to this or Earth's system. You wouldn't happen to have any whiskey?"

Evaan. The name rang a bell, and then when she explained that she wasn't used to Earth, Carol figured it out. And her smile grew a little. "Right- were you the one with the hyperdrive." She had wondered what happened to that one. "Glad you haven't blown yourself up. Yet."

Whiskey. "Girl after my own heart." She winked and reached around to grab a bottle, getting a clean mug out in the process. She poured a fair amount then handed it to Evaan before picking up her own. Carol made sure to leave the bottle on the counter, just in case they'd need a refill.

"So...what brings you to this part of the galaxy?"

"Oh, bless you or may the Force do whatever the Force does for you." It was a toss-up between Carol and the bottle for who Evaan wanted to kiss in gratitude more. In the end Evaan behaved herself and raised the glass to Carol in a small salute before taking a drink. It might not have been what she was used to but it had a good burn and really that was all Evaan ever really wanted from a whiskey. That and not going blind, but that didn't seem like much of a concern here, at least not until someone started making it themselves.

She really hoped they weren't here long enough to start making whiskey. Evaan remembered it taking several months in the academy.

"Mm, thanks." She said, putting her glass down. She was determined to sip it slow, wanting to pace herself and not run through the whole stock in one night. "Oh, you know. End of a mission, figured I'd take my shore leave early, or my ship did since I lost power for no explicable reason. I think she knew there was a bar opening here soon and that I'd already exhausted every cantina and officer's club on Chandrila. She gave her life in the pursuit of new and interesting alcohol, may she not be forgotten."

"What's the Force?" Carol made a face, still smirking at the notion then shaking her head. Probably would've been better not to ask and just drink the whiskey. She toasted back and took another drink from her own cup.

Carol was very much the opposite in regards to taking things slow with her drink. Of course, that mirrored everything she did. Rushing headfirst into things and impatience was the only way she did anything.

She let out a laugh when Evaan explained about her ship and nodded.
"Well, hopefully, she didn't die in vain." Carol cocked her head, studying the woman. "So you were in the military?" She picked up on that quickly. "You're definitely not Kree. Or the Nova Corps." Carol's curiosity was peaked.

"I literally have no idea." It was probably best that they move past that question anyway. Evaan really didn't know what the Force was, Luke had talked about it but the farm-boy hadn't had the best grasp of it himself, or so it sounded early on. It had something to do with the Jedi, and then with the rebellion, it was all too 'magic' for her taste, but she would still say 'may the force be with you' because that was just tradition by this point. It had seemed positive at least, it was always nicer and some of the choice words she often wanted to say before every mission.

Evaan nodded as well, allowing herself another sip that might have gone on just a little too long if she was trying to conserve the stock they had. It really was good and she'd decided to reward herself with another sip for being so economical.

"New Republic Navy. And the Rebel Alliance before that. Y-Wing pilot, Gold Squadron. Bombers." She could explain all of that but it wouldn't be great to listen to. Especially when she could get Carol talking more and that was much more interesting. "Can't say I've ever heard of the Kree. I knew a B-Wing squadron called Nova, but not a whole corps. Guess we're from very different places, but you seem to give off that military vibe too. You said you were a pilot before, right?"

Carol laughed and shook her head. Okay, she'd definitely ask more about it later. Maybe when she wasn't drinking and if she got to know Evaan more. Maybe not. It depended on whether or not she even remembered this conversation tomorrow (which might not happen if she kept drinking her own bar out of house and home).

Okay, that was an interesting roster. Carol raised her eyebrow, cocking her head and nodding. "Pilot, huh?" Oh yes, she knew she liked this woman. Of course, she'd already heard the woman talking about her downed ship, but this just confirmed it. "I'm going to be level with you and say I have no idea who the Gold Squadron are or what you are rebelling against, but I can relate to the flying bit. Yeah, I flew for the American Air Force. Captain Carol Danvers, technically." Not that it meant anything to the woman on the other side of the bar.

"But that was a long time ago. I've also worked with the Kree Starforce for a few years- I try not to think about that too much. They think of themselves as noble warrior heroes, but they're more like galactic Nazis." Yeah, Carol was just a little bit bitter about her time with the Kree. Time to finish the cup of whiskey and pour a little more. She offered to top Evaan off too if she wanted. It was clear Carol could hold her liquor.

"Sooo.....this hyperdrive of yours. Still, need help with it? Noticed you haven't blown yourself up, yet- that's good."

"I am surrounded by captains." She said with a small, surprised expression. Steve had been upfront with it but with him, it seemed to just go along with everything else. Carol was clearly just sharing information, not making a point. Evaan had dealt with a great many officers who liked showing off their rank as a way to make them feel better about themselves, she was relieved that this vision before her wasn't like that. She put a hand to her chest, "Lieutenant."

Instead of worrying too hard over what a Kree or Nazi was Evaan pushed her glass forward, happily accepting the top-up. "Sounds like a bad situation. Our actual noble warrior heroes were slaughtered to a man by the Empire. The Galatic Empire. Bucket heads. They started blowing up planets, after that, we had to put them down. We were largely successful, or at least we were when I was back on Chanrila. Who knows what's going on now."

Evaan believed they should have been punished more severely, absolutely aware of how biased she was on the whole thing after what happened to Alderaan.

After a drink, and maybe a longer than necessary look into those stunning brown eyes, she nodded. "My hyperdrive, yeah. Yeah, I just pulled off the parts that were non-essential to containing the hypermatter. Someone offered magic or something like that, but I'm starting to think maybe leaving it to someone who isn't going to get so much as a split-end from being in an explosion might not be a bad idea. At this point, it should be easy as pulling a drink from a keg, which is fitting since I'll be storing it in a flask."

"Ooo...a lieutenant. If I'd known that, I might have made you salute me when you came in." Carol winked and sipped her whiskey. Okay, she was flirting. Badly. Very badly. It had been mentioned before how less-than-subtle Carol could be.

Hearing Evaan talk go on about this Galatic Empire, Carol realized they really were from different parts of the universe. Or maybe different universes altogether. Either way, she didn't like the sound of the Empire. "Sounds like you needed Captain Marvel." She was half-kidding, half-not. Evaan's enemies sounded far too much like the Kree and many other aggressive civilizations Carol had fought against over the years.

CCarol stared right back, raising an eyebrow as if in a challenge for Evaan to suggest something (because Carol honestly was tempted to just tell Peter to take over and pull Evaan upstairs). Yup. Definitely going to be an interesting night. "Well, I'm pretty hard to blow up, considering. The offer still stands if you want me to help. Worst cause, I'll probably drain your battery."

Evaan took a drink, mostly to save herself from saying something wildly inappropriate in regards to what else Carol could have made her do. She could be an obedient soldier, pilot, whatever when she wanted to. The whiskey must have been stronger than she thought because a part of her was sure it was making her flush. It had to be the alcohol, of course. She was mostly sure that women her age didn't blush at filthy thoughts.

"Captain Marvel? That a description or a name?" She asked, putting her empty glass down. Conserving whiskey? What was that? Evaan was pretty sure that was a horrible plan, probably one instituted by some moralistic bucket head commander that was fine with genocide but enjoying alcohol was an unforgivable personal flaw, all while likely fondling his expensive bottles of wine. By that logic enjoying a drink with a beautiful woman was down-right patriotic. "Though, that is a great name for a ship."

That eyebrow made Evaan smile wider than she had before, sure now that she had somehow become very lucky or Carol had far too much to drink. The fact that Carol was still upright and looking at her like that made her think lucky, though the whiskey had helped. "Oh, I welcome any help you and your indestructible hands can offer me. Especially with the hyperdrive." She shrugged a little, leaning in just a touch closer. "You probably can't help it anyway, right? The dangers of being so attractive. Even tachyons will trip over themselves to get close."

Okay, that made Carol laugh a little and nod. "It does, doesn't it?? I mean, it's technically Mar-vel, but people like to mess it up and turn it into one word. I think it's just easier that way." Should she explain the situation? It probably didn't matter. Not yet. It was fun having someone who didn't immediately recognize her in the universe- well, more likely in this place, anyway.

If there had been any doubts as to whether or not Evaan had been flirting back, those were definitely quelled by that comment. Carol leaned over the bar on her elbows, maybe a little closer than she should have considering that they just met and she usually liked to play it "cool" in public. But, the whiskey was starting to have the desired effect, and it had been a while for her.

"My hands are all yours anytime. It's probably a bad idea to let you know my room is just upstairs, huh?"

Evaan shrugged, "It's only a bad idea if you leave the bottle and your hands aren't as nice as they look."

Of course, she'd taken a glance or two at them. Short, clean, no hangnails or anything that could snag or cause discomfort. Just as pretty and perfect as Evaan hoped. Not that she'd planned on possibly going upstairs with her. For as pretty as everyone told her she was, Evaan was generally pretty terrible at flirting or picking anybody she was interested in up. She was either too blunt or too subtle, there really wasn't much of an in-between. Really the whiskey had done most of the heavy lifting in this case, and she'd only gotten blunt at the end when she wanted to be sure they were on the same page.

That was definitely an open invitation if Carol had ever heard one. Carol's grin grew a few centimeters and her eyes darkened as she glanced back at Peter. She really shouldn't leave him alone with a full bar but at the same time. "Hey Old Man, I'm gonna take a break. Yell if anyone tries to blow up the bar!"

She winked at Carol and grabbed the bottle of whiskey and headed to the other end of the bar, not even looking back to see if Evaan would follow, just stepping towards the wooden door that led to the stairs to her little crappy loft.

She was definitely getting lucky, and Carol told herself it would be fine. What were the odds of anything bad happening while she was away, right?
