Who: Anyone who wants to come by
What: Grand-opening party!
Where: Pancho's Bar
When: Friday Night

The streamers were up (because Jan had insisted), and the bar was as ready as it ever would be. Alcohol was stored in a few make-shift shelves on the back wall and a relatively well-cobbled together bar was freshly polished and ready to go. It wasn't the most well-put-together, place, but Pancho's definitely resembled its namesake in terms of dim lighting, chipped tables and a floor that looked like it should be sticky. All in all, Carol was pretty proud of what they'd made. The minifridge was even a good choice since it allowed them to keep some drinks cold (they were going to have to find a larger one in the future, though).

She had warned Peter that the pizza oven needed to be ready by that evening, but she wasn't sure how on the ball with that he was. She'd been busy doing damage control on some electrical issues they were having with the fridge and double checking to make sure they actually had drinking cups (that took a little bit of maneuvering, but Clint came through with the coffee mugs). Yup, vodka from coffee mugs, a mini-fridge filled with a variety of stolen beers, and mismatched chairs. And, of course, the balloons. The annoying, awful squeaky balloons that had floated into a couple of corners of the room, save for the two that kept dragging on the floor and that Carol dreaded would pop at some point that evening. Definitely professional.

Karaoke was set up in one corner of the room with a make-shift stage and Christmas lights (Yes, more Christmas lights) decorating around it. Old 80s rock music blasted from the speakers for now, and Carol stood behind the bar, ready to serve as needed but more than willing to drag anyone else into the position should they so choose that evening.

"They sound like good people." She meant that. This Aunt May, in particular, sounded like the kind of woman Carol would like.

Carol drank. "Yeah...she was pretty amazing." There was an awkward, heavy moment when Carol said that. There was a lot to be said for Maria and their relationship. Yup, drinking was better than talking. Luckily for her, Peter didn't press. She offered him some whiskey and nodded as they went on.

"I don't mean retire retire, Parker! I mean consider doing something else for your family. You were the one saying you were ready to settle down. This could be a start? At least show your ex you're serious." She really was trying to help, but as previously noted. Carol didn't know a damn thing about subtlety. "You tell her about the plans and actually make those plans and she will see you mean it when you say you want her back and you're ready for a family. Which can definitely still be a thing while you're doing the wall-crawling schtick. "

"Yeah, they were pretty amazing." He agreed, managing not to let himself get tripped up on the past tense of it all. That was something that was going to be hard to go back to. Even if the May he'd met in Miles' universe hadn't been his own she was still May, and leaving that had been a difficult thing.

It sounded like they were both getting caught up in a kind of awkward that they didn't need to deal with tonight, this was more of a drink in private and get drunk about it kind of thing if they were gonna talk about this - and not a drink about it while they were also trying to get their bar up and running. So not pressing was exactly the right course of action as far as Peter was concerned.

He pursed his lips when she tried to quantify it, not retire retire, but it was something and you know even if it was a little heavy handed Peter did appreciate that she was trying to help. "Yeah maybe," he said finally, "It's a lot you know, I never really considered what I'd do after.... you know after."

Carol nodded, starting to realize she was probably trying to push the idea a little too hard. But it was only because she cared. Peter was probably one of the closer friends she had in Starklandia, and Carol had a habit of becoming overly involved with the few close friends she had in her own universe. Well, maybe overly involved wasn't fair. Motherly was a better description.

Hey, if she couldn't take care of the crap in her own life, she might as well try to help others with their own, right?

"I know. I never consider it, either. But I'm in a different position than you. I haven't seen anyone I'd call family in decades, not even sure if they want me back at this point." That hurt. Too much. Move on, Danvers. "Plus, you're gonna get old and fragile someday, right? Probably need a plan." She smirked and sipped the whiskey. Nice recovery, Carol! Yup. Half a bottle of scotch and she was finally starting to feel it.

Peter could recognize that Carol was trying to help him, it wasn't her fault that he was an emotionally stunted man child after all. So he didn't let it stick too much that she was offering him an out that he hadn't really asked for, and maybe it was the sort of thing that MJ would like, he wondered. She'd never asked him to give up Spider-Man, not at any point, not when she'd wanted to start a family, not when they'd gotten married, she'd never wanted him to choose.

"Guess maybe that's the sort of thing we all have to consider at some point." He said slowly, even if it was a little bit terrifying. Maybe he'd be like that other Peter Parker, killed and made into some kind of hero for the city after the fact, well he'd been a hero the whole time - but you know. Unmasked. But Carol was right, she was in a different position than him, her powers made her different. "I can't imagine anyone who knows you not wanting you around though."

"I'm glad you're out here looking out for me when I finally make it to those old and fragile years." He said with a huff though, taking another drink because well that was better than the encroaching sense of mortality that was creeping up at him.

Carol scoffed at what she assumed was a compliment from Peter. "Thanks, Parker, but you just haven't known me long enough. I tend to rub people the wrong way eventually. Especially those I have to work with." It was true. She was shit at taking orders, and worse wat following directions (even basic ones). She tended to be overly emotional and acted before she thought about most things. At least, in her youth. She'd gotten better after her time in Starforce. Though not much better.

"Any time, Old Man!" She patted his shoulder and nodded. She teased, but the fact that she wasn't aging bothered her more than she wanted to let on. "Probably need to get back to work. But, seriously, if no one else hops on the music box, you should give it a go." Carol winked before turning to help one of their guests who looked like they needed a refill. Better to drop the darker subjects for now.
