Who: Anyone who wants to come by
What: Grand-opening party!
Where: Pancho's Bar
When: Friday Night

The streamers were up (because Jan had insisted), and the bar was as ready as it ever would be. Alcohol was stored in a few make-shift shelves on the back wall and a relatively well-cobbled together bar was freshly polished and ready to go. It wasn't the most well-put-together, place, but Pancho's definitely resembled its namesake in terms of dim lighting, chipped tables and a floor that looked like it should be sticky. All in all, Carol was pretty proud of what they'd made. The minifridge was even a good choice since it allowed them to keep some drinks cold (they were going to have to find a larger one in the future, though).

She had warned Peter that the pizza oven needed to be ready by that evening, but she wasn't sure how on the ball with that he was. She'd been busy doing damage control on some electrical issues they were having with the fridge and double checking to make sure they actually had drinking cups (that took a little bit of maneuvering, but Clint came through with the coffee mugs). Yup, vodka from coffee mugs, a mini-fridge filled with a variety of stolen beers, and mismatched chairs. And, of course, the balloons. The annoying, awful squeaky balloons that had floated into a couple of corners of the room, save for the two that kept dragging on the floor and that Carol dreaded would pop at some point that evening. Definitely professional.

Karaoke was set up in one corner of the room with a make-shift stage and Christmas lights (Yes, more Christmas lights) decorating around it. Old 80s rock music blasted from the speakers for now, and Carol stood behind the bar, ready to serve as needed but more than willing to drag anyone else into the position should they so choose that evening.

"I'm suggesting you because I know for a fact I'd scare people away from the karaoke machine and probably out of the bar if it gets too crazy. Better keep me saddled here." That and the only person she trusted to see her sing was Peter- and that was because he'd been willing to go up with her the last time. And she'd been pretty drunk.

"No rush, just figured one of us could get the ball rolling at some point tonight. Though feels like people are happy enough to chat." She glanced around at their little bar, filling up as it was. Carol was having a good time serving and people watching. It felt strangely like home.

"Maybe when you get back home, you could open a pizza place. Pete's Pizza! Name pizzas after your powers." She laughed at the notion. "I mean when you want to really retire from the whole crim0fhgting thing."

Peter laughed when Carol explained that she suggested him because his brand of terrible might be a little less scary than hers. "I don't know, I seem to remember you were pretty good." He grinned, but you know they had both been pretty drunk that night so maybe his memory wasn't entirely accurate on that regard.

So far though people did look like they were happy to just listen to the music Carol had picked and talk and drink, it was good, they could make the karaoke a friday night kind of thing, keep it simpler during the week. That was how it worked back home, at least Peter was pretty sure that was how it worked. "Yeah we've got a pretty good turn out so far."

He huffed shaking his when she suggested a pizza place when they got home, "I don't know, I've had pretty bad luck when it comes to restaurants in the past." He admitted, sure it had been more Spider-Man themed than Peter but the thought of trying again was a little bit scary.

"You remember wrong." Carol laughed. "That's just a testament to how drunk we both were. Not that we should have it any other way." It was honestly one of her best recent memories, and Carol wouldn't change it. Even if it had resulted in some questionable activities on their end.

When Peter mentioned his dabbling in restaurants, things clicked in her head. "That explains your way around a stove. Because I can definitely see you in a restaurant." She wondered if that might be something he would be interested in after retiring from the whole Spider-Man thing. "Cooking is safer than crime fighting they say. Well, sometimes."

"Well you're right about that much at least," Peter agreed, they'd both been pretty spectacularly drunk, he wasn't sure that either one of them would have done what they had if they hadn't been. But considering where they were now - he was pretty sure they'd done the right thing. "Yeah, that was a pretty great night." He agreed, even when things had delved into the less fun topics they'd still managed to get through them and well - Peter hadn't really talked about that much with anyone besides Carol so that was good too. Getting that out of his head.

He laughed and shook his head, "That's all down to Aunt May, she made sure I knew enough to be able to take care of myself when I did finally move out." Though even then there had been a lot of take out. But this he could handle, pizza was a special case, and it was the sort of thing that to him said home, so being able to bring that to everyone else. That was worth the trouble of building the oven and now being here to man it.

"I've heard that." He agreed and considering he might be looking for safer at some point very soon his life - he wondered if maybe this would be a better option. It was one thing here though, it was something else to try this back in New York, where there were amazing pizza joints on every corner. "Something to consider at least," a road less taken - at least for the spider inclined of the population.

Carol laughed and nodded. "We definitely need to do that again. Even if it's not at a weird convention where we all exist in comic books."

Aunt May. She remembered a little about what Peter had told her (or maybe she'd glanced at it in one of those comics), but what she gathered wasn't very substantial. "So you lived with your aunt, right? Brothers or sisters?" Yup, this was probably getting too personal. But hell, after what they've talked about before, she figured it wasn't going any deeper. At least her questions for him weren't. Sober Carol would have stopped herself because she'd have figured out asking questions about Peter's family might lead to questions about her own. And that might not be comfortable.

"Seriously, girls like stability, so I hear. Well, normal girls. Right?" She was trying to suggest his ex-wife might not mind it, but she was probably failing. Carol was terrible at subtlety.

"I could stand to do that again," He agreed with a laugh, "But yeah, less creepy convention, just the bar part." Maybe some room service and a hot shower too. Yeah that had been a really good day on all counts.

Peter nodded when she asked about his aunt. "Yeah, my parents died when I was young, my Aunt and Uncle took me in." He told her, it was a little less of a tender spot than things with MJ had been. "It was just us though. What about you?" He asked curious now that they were going for it. "Brothers or sisters?"

Ducking his head, Peter huffed a low laugh and nodded, "Yeah, I think you're probably right. Stability is sort of a thing most normal people like." At least that's what he'd heard. It's what he'd wanted to give MJ but never felt like he could.

When Peter talked about his parents, Carol frowned a little and nodded. "Sorry...' She probably shouldn't have brought up something she knew could be sensitive.

And there it was. Carol glanced down at her cup realizing she needed a refill. There was a moment of pause before she answered. "Mom left when I was younger. Middle child, only girl. Didn't exactly get along with them." She shrugged and grinned. "I basically acted out until I was kicked out at 15. My best friend's family were nice enough to take me in." Probably should stop there. Definitely needed more booze. She reached towards the nearby shelf and grabbed the nearest bottle of cheap whiskey, pouring a little more and nodding to Peter to offer him some. So far, the customers were pretty happy with their drinks so they were free to chat a bit longer.

"Well there you go! WHEN you get back, start planning for retirement and tell MJ your plan." Easy, right? She took a drink from her newly filled mug and smiled. "Seriously, you can do this."

Peter shook his head, his parents were - well he missed them, of course he did, but that was something he had enough distance from that it didn't stab at his heart now the way it had when he'd been younger. "My Aunt and Uncle were good for me I think, you know they made me the man I am now," Uncle Ben taught him the most important lesson he'd ever learned. He wouldn't be Spider-Man without that.

Yep, families were a tricky thing and delving into them like this could be a big mistake sometimes, Peter knew of course, but he'd gone ahead and done it and then Carol laid out for him and well - yeah they definitely needed to have another drink and move things along. "Sounds like you have a really good friend." He didn't press for more though because Peter might be a little socially awkward at times but he knew enough to know when he was walking into a minefield and instead he held out his cup for a little bit more.

"Retirement?" He scoffed at the idea, "I'm not even forty yet, I can't retire." He protested, things were rarely that simple, he supposed there would come a time when of course he'd retire - he couldn't be swinging around on webs when he was like... seventy, but before then? He didn't know. He needed another drink before he started thinking about how old he was getting.

"They sound like good people." She meant that. This Aunt May, in particular, sounded like the kind of woman Carol would like.

Carol drank. "Yeah...she was pretty amazing." There was an awkward, heavy moment when Carol said that. There was a lot to be said for Maria and their relationship. Yup, drinking was better than talking. Luckily for her, Peter didn't press. She offered him some whiskey and nodded as they went on.

"I don't mean retire retire, Parker! I mean consider doing something else for your family. You were the one saying you were ready to settle down. This could be a start? At least show your ex you're serious." She really was trying to help, but as previously noted. Carol didn't know a damn thing about subtlety. "You tell her about the plans and actually make those plans and she will see you mean it when you say you want her back and you're ready for a family. Which can definitely still be a thing while you're doing the wall-crawling schtick. "

"Yeah, they were pretty amazing." He agreed, managing not to let himself get tripped up on the past tense of it all. That was something that was going to be hard to go back to. Even if the May he'd met in Miles' universe hadn't been his own she was still May, and leaving that had been a difficult thing.

It sounded like they were both getting caught up in a kind of awkward that they didn't need to deal with tonight, this was more of a drink in private and get drunk about it kind of thing if they were gonna talk about this - and not a drink about it while they were also trying to get their bar up and running. So not pressing was exactly the right course of action as far as Peter was concerned.

He pursed his lips when she tried to quantify it, not retire retire, but it was something and you know even if it was a little heavy handed Peter did appreciate that she was trying to help. "Yeah maybe," he said finally, "It's a lot you know, I never really considered what I'd do after.... you know after."

Carol nodded, starting to realize she was probably trying to push the idea a little too hard. But it was only because she cared. Peter was probably one of the closer friends she had in Starklandia, and Carol had a habit of becoming overly involved with the few close friends she had in her own universe. Well, maybe overly involved wasn't fair. Motherly was a better description.

Hey, if she couldn't take care of the crap in her own life, she might as well try to help others with their own, right?

"I know. I never consider it, either. But I'm in a different position than you. I haven't seen anyone I'd call family in decades, not even sure if they want me back at this point." That hurt. Too much. Move on, Danvers. "Plus, you're gonna get old and fragile someday, right? Probably need a plan." She smirked and sipped the whiskey. Nice recovery, Carol! Yup. Half a bottle of scotch and she was finally starting to feel it.

Peter could recognize that Carol was trying to help him, it wasn't her fault that he was an emotionally stunted man child after all. So he didn't let it stick too much that she was offering him an out that he hadn't really asked for, and maybe it was the sort of thing that MJ would like, he wondered. She'd never asked him to give up Spider-Man, not at any point, not when she'd wanted to start a family, not when they'd gotten married, she'd never wanted him to choose.

"Guess maybe that's the sort of thing we all have to consider at some point." He said slowly, even if it was a little bit terrifying. Maybe he'd be like that other Peter Parker, killed and made into some kind of hero for the city after the fact, well he'd been a hero the whole time - but you know. Unmasked. But Carol was right, she was in a different position than him, her powers made her different. "I can't imagine anyone who knows you not wanting you around though."

"I'm glad you're out here looking out for me when I finally make it to those old and fragile years." He said with a huff though, taking another drink because well that was better than the encroaching sense of mortality that was creeping up at him.

Carol scoffed at what she assumed was a compliment from Peter. "Thanks, Parker, but you just haven't known me long enough. I tend to rub people the wrong way eventually. Especially those I have to work with." It was true. She was shit at taking orders, and worse wat following directions (even basic ones). She tended to be overly emotional and acted before she thought about most things. At least, in her youth. She'd gotten better after her time in Starforce. Though not much better.

"Any time, Old Man!" She patted his shoulder and nodded. She teased, but the fact that she wasn't aging bothered her more than she wanted to let on. "Probably need to get back to work. But, seriously, if no one else hops on the music box, you should give it a go." Carol winked before turning to help one of their guests who looked like they needed a refill. Better to drop the darker subjects for now.
