Who: Anyone who wants to come by
What: Grand-opening party!
Where: Pancho's Bar
When: Friday Night

The streamers were up (because Jan had insisted), and the bar was as ready as it ever would be. Alcohol was stored in a few make-shift shelves on the back wall and a relatively well-cobbled together bar was freshly polished and ready to go. It wasn't the most well-put-together, place, but Pancho's definitely resembled its namesake in terms of dim lighting, chipped tables and a floor that looked like it should be sticky. All in all, Carol was pretty proud of what they'd made. The minifridge was even a good choice since it allowed them to keep some drinks cold (they were going to have to find a larger one in the future, though).

She had warned Peter that the pizza oven needed to be ready by that evening, but she wasn't sure how on the ball with that he was. She'd been busy doing damage control on some electrical issues they were having with the fridge and double checking to make sure they actually had drinking cups (that took a little bit of maneuvering, but Clint came through with the coffee mugs). Yup, vodka from coffee mugs, a mini-fridge filled with a variety of stolen beers, and mismatched chairs. And, of course, the balloons. The annoying, awful squeaky balloons that had floated into a couple of corners of the room, save for the two that kept dragging on the floor and that Carol dreaded would pop at some point that evening. Definitely professional.

Karaoke was set up in one corner of the room with a make-shift stage and Christmas lights (Yes, more Christmas lights) decorating around it. Old 80s rock music blasted from the speakers for now, and Carol stood behind the bar, ready to serve as needed but more than willing to drag anyone else into the position should they so choose that evening.

Drinking had always sort of been the habit he’d never been able to quit even when he’d dropped most the rest of his bad choices at a younger age, but Tony’d practically gotten used to going without lately even if he’d indulged in some little bottles of liquor and some beer during the convention that’d been open in the doorways earlier in the month.

Still, there was no saying no to the grand opening of Carol and Alpha Peter’s new bar — and Tony wouldn’t have wanted to in the first place. It wasn’t even just about the drinking, so much as the ambiance and noise that came with going somewhere that wasn’t home. Tony hadn’t always been social by nature so much as out of necessity but he did get something out of going to places where people were. This was as close as Starklandia was going to get to that, he figured.

So yeah. He was going to park himself on a stool with a drink and see what the night had on offer.

Carol had been serving up whatever she could to the first few people that had come in when she spotted none other than Big Tony (because that's how she thought of him) saddle up to the bar. Turning toward the older man, she grinned and nodded. "I'm going to take a wild guess and say scotch?"

Tony seemed like an easy enough man to read, the sort that was rich and liked to show it with what he drank. And while she and Peter tried to get the good stuff while they were loading their cart, the selection in the tiny bar was still limited. That didn't stop her from pulling out a coffee mug and asking. "On the rocks or nah?"

Her wild guess wasn't really far off the mark, and judging from what there was sitting on the make-shift shelves behind the bar, it was probably one of the better things Pancho's (eventually, Tony would get around to asking about the name) had to offer.

"Nah to ice," he agreed, because he figured a proper ice maker was harder to come by than the liquor. Maybe he'd make that his next tinkering project -- it never hurt to try putting a little work into the local businesses. All three of them. "Scotch is good though. Perfect, even." Tony's days of being picky were rather limited now, anyway. "You put some elbow grease into this place. It looks good."

She nodded, grabbing the bottle from the shelf and pouring a good amount into the mug before handing it off to him. "Thanks. I'm surprised it turned out as good as it did, all things considered." She leaned on her elbow, nodding as another person entered the little bar and glancing again at Tony.

"So....I've been meaning to ask you; what's with the time difference between you and younger you?" She had sort of broached the question before. Alternative dimensions she understood, but she was curious about how the same person could still be the same person but born in different years. "I mean, you're both Tony Stark, but how is that if you were born different years? I know they're telling me there's another Carol, but I don't know how I'd be me if I wasn't born and raised when I was. Does that make sense?"

"Cheers," Tony said, pulling the coffee mug (very classy, it had Clint all over it, practically) closer and glancing over too when someone wandered in. It was going to be a good turn out, for all intents and purposes. As good as a turn out could be with so few people actually around, anyway.

Her question did make sense -- it might not have if it wasn't something he'd considered extensively. It was hard not to when face with a younger, fresher version of himself in the same room sometimes. "Right," he said, pulling together his thoughts. "I think the thing is, is that other Carol wouldn't really be you. Not quite. I think some personality quirks might be a constant even through alternate realities -- you've talked to the baby me a bit, I gather? He's clever, funny, clearly knows his way around machinery. But he's..." Tony took a drink in order to afford himself time to think of a decent description. "Not me. He's cleaner. Less rough around the edges. When I was his age I'd been in rehab, out again and ready to go back. That probably was a product of my time just as much as anything else."

Carol nodded slowly. Another her that wasn't her. Yeah, that was definitely weirding her out a little. "So much for being unique in the universe." She'd heard that said about her enough times in her travels, and now there was the idea that in some other dimension she wasn't. Not that the realization was news, but thinking about it was almost unsettling. Especially since she might face herself one day.

"Tiny Tony was the first one I met when I got here. I like him. Kinda like the little brother I wanted instead of the one I got." She smirked, though there was a little bit of bitterness in her tone. Carol's family wasn't something she cared to bring up that often. Usually, she preferred to never bring them up at all.

"Hey, don't bring your time into it. I was raised in the drug-filled sex-obsessed era of disco and bell-bottoms." She leaned on her elbows over the bar and smirking at Tony. "But...yeah, he's definitely less narcissistic and alcoholic. You have your charm, though." Carol admired Tony, especially after talking to his friends around town. She liked both Tonys for different reasons. She could never see herself following the other tony as a leader, but this one? She was starting to understand why others followed him. Even if he could be a little off-putting sometimes.

"You've changed, though. Just saying- don't beat yourself up too much." She took out her own mug and poured a little scotch for herself. "All that life experience made you who you are- even if the rehab didn't quite take." Carol nodded to his cup before taking a drink from her own.

"No, no. That's what I'm saying. You are unique. There could be another Carol Danvers but that doesn't make her you. Just like that other Tony is a Tony but he isn't me. The differences are clear. There'll never be a point where we get confused over who's who. And time does have something to do with it. Time has to do with everything though, even down to the second. It's like -- you know. You leave a minute earlier or later on a drive and you don't get into a car accident and your whole life is different than it might have been -- just. No. Bad example. It's chaos theory and string theory all rolled into one weird knot and you've got this place."

He waved the idea away, because he wasn't exactly sure where he was going with it. It just was, sort of. Infinite realities meant infinite versions of them, some the same, others wildly different, no doubt.

"Thanks," he went on, a little more subdued, but only because he was vaguely bemused by the fact that Carol was pointing out his charm and offering outs on his -- well. Alcoholism. He wasn't sure he'd call it that, personally, but it probably wasn't far off the mark. He smiled, and it was one of those honest and rare Stark smiles. "Everyone needs at least one bad habit. I kicked the rest." He raised his glass a little, in some bizarre form of celebration to that idea. "Do you like standing behind the bar?"

She was following him, strangely enough. It was more than genetics and coincidence that made them who they were. It was literally their experiences and their timing that made them who they were. She took some comfort in that, at least. "No, it makes sense. But still, it's weird thinking that someone else has my powers." She took a sip of scotch, considering the possibilities of that.

She lifted her cup to his bad habit comment, knowing full well she had more than one, but happy to toast this little flaw for now. "Amen, brother." Another sip and she shrugged.

"Almost better than dancing on top of it, I guess." She let that one sit for a little while as she waved at someone else coming in.

"You're not wrong there," Tony said wryly, because it was pretty weird knowing there was another person - another him - in town who could build things nearly the same way he could. Tony thought that he was probably a bit more advanced than the younger version, but that was something that'd just come with time. Innovation wasn't an immediate thing, even if it felt like it sometimes. "Maybe you'll luck out and another you won't show up." He paused, thoughtful. "Unless you want to met her." Carol had a pretty strong personality though, and he wasn't sure how well it'd go if there were two of them in the same room. That was probably one of the reasons why he tended to avoid his own little doppleganger. It'd be too much, maybe.

He laughed at that and punctuated it by trying not to drink his entire scotch in practically one go. It was limited resources and all. Plus it'd be best not to prove himself wrong in terms of alcoholism right away. There'd been a time when his tolerance would have been through the roof, but that was before space, and then this place. "I think I left those days in the nineties," he said, peeking at who'd walked in. "But it suits you, I think. As much as anything here can suit anyone, you know?" This wasn't saving cities or planets by any means, but it was something with some meaning behind it that passed the time.

"Let's hope for all of our sakes that doesn't happen", Carol commented on the idea of another her showing up. Even if she was partially ready for it. Okay, not really. "I don't know how I'd go meeting myself. We'd probably end up killing one another either in a bet or just by one of us saying the wrong thing and the other one throwing a punch." Oh yeah. That'd be bad. Carol laughed and took another drink. She was trying to conserve but probably wasn't as worried as Tony might have been about how much she was drinking. It took more for her to even feel the effects, and then there was the whole denial thing.

"Yeah, that's what I told myself until one night a few years ago on Xander. Let's just say the Nova Corps doesn't hold back when it comes to a party." She wondered if Stark had ever heard of half the things she was talking about. In this place, she could never be sure. Carol didn't hesitate to pour herself a little more and offered to top off Tony.

"You think?" She scrunched her nose about this suiting her but considered. "Huh. It was bound to happen, eventually. Spent enough time in places like these back home." Carol paused and looked around at the people who'd filtered in and shrugged. "This is probably as close to Earth as I've been i a long time. Well, my Earth, I mean."

Tony winced at that thought, but rather thought she was right -- something about Carol was just asking for a challenge. There'd be no way that she wouldn't be tempted to duke it out with another version of herself just to see who'd come out on top. He was only lucky that he had no such interest in doing that with smaller Tony.

And no, he didn't get all of the references, but he got enough of them between inference and having listened to the Guardian's of the Galaxy prattle on for a hell of a lot longer than anyone should have had. It wasn't hard to figure things out. "I think you'd still be able to pull it off," he offered, even if he knew it might mean she'd be out here trying to compare ages again.

He pushed his mug forward for her to refill, because he absolutely wasn't going to say no to something like that. "Sure. Same as I didn't think I was going to be a literal electrician or mechanic." But that was how this place worked. You just had to start with the basics and then build. "Your Earth is probably my Earth too," Tony pointed out but then looked around the bar a little more. "Even if this bar isn't my kind, usually." That wasn't a bad thing, though.

"The bar thing? Oh hell yeah, I could pull it off." Carol laughed into the mug, that infamous cockiness shining through as she took a sip of scotch and nodded. "...Not until I've had a little more, I think. Definitely not until everyone else is drunk enough to forget."

Her eyes were fixated on Tony when he explained that they were probably from the same Earth. She'd already assumed as much after what little information they'd shared, but it hadn't gone much beyond that. "You know, when Old Man Peter and I went through the door last time to that convention, I saw some things on the news and started thinking about everything I missed back home. Steve's already told me a little bit here and there, but I'm still trying to figure out why Fury waited until Thanos to send for me."

Carol had honestly been disappointed to realize there were times that she could have helped her homeworld and not even been told what was going on. Yes, other planets needed protection, but some of this stuff was bigger than she had realized. Global threats. Fury hadn't bothered to contact her or update her on his little project himself. She'd learned about it here, after all of this had happened.

Carol absolutely was cocky, but not in a bad way -- she clearly had the chops to back up her words in most cases and a wicked sense of humor when she wanted to. Even in network communication, Tony had been positive he liked her. In person, it was no different at all. Plus, hey, he was cocky too, so they were a matching set. "Yeah, you wouldn't want that to be a nightly demand," he said of the table dancing.

He sipped at his drink as she ruminated, nodding along thoughtfully until she got to the point she was really trying to make. If she was from the same dimension as him (and Tony highly, highly suspected she was, because everything and every reference lined up too perfectly for her not to be) why hadn't Fury asked for help during times when they'd needed it? Carol clearly would have been the hand that tipped the odds back in their favor each and every time.

"Politics, probably," Tony said after a beat. Because Fury was working within the confines of the government, on some level. Or had been until SHIELD had gotten taken over by Nazis and Cap had basically just punched the entire organization in the face. "And also because maybe he liked to think he had it covered. Which until now, he kind of did. The Avengers are --" He paused, awkward. "Were. The Avengers were a solid team. We had a Hulk and a god, and a moral backbone. We handled things."

“Yeah. Unless I can get the Old Man to do it, too. Might be worth it.” Carol laughed at the idea of poor Peter trying to dance. She had a feeling he wouldn’t be so willing to try. She’d save that for another conversation with her business partner.

Politics. She hated that. Another drink, probably longer than she should have allowed, and she commented. “Fury never seemed like much of a political guy.” Maybe that changed. The thinking he had it covered thing? That definitely sounded like Fury, though. “Wait, you had a god?” She definitely had to hear this one. “And what’s a hulk?”

The image of Older Peter letting loose on the table tops was a strange one, and Tony wasn't all that sure he was into it. Maybe it was just a thing for him - whatever spider it was that walked into his life, he felt a little bit like he had to protect them and help them make the best decisions possible. Table dancing wasn't on the list of things he wanted for any Peter. And most definitely not for Gwen. He frowned a little, shook his head minutely.

"We had a god," Tony repeated, glancing down into his cup. "Ever heard of Thor? Or Asgard, I guess. He's from there. Bit theatrical, wears a cape. Carries around a magical hammer." It was hard to properly describe the guy without him actually being here, because he sounded a little bit like a joke, but just. Wasn't. "And Hulk is a man. Well, no. Bruce is the man. He turns into a giant rage monster. Can jump a mile without effort. Likes to smash things."

Oh yes. She'd heard of Asgard. "I know of them." Arrogant sons of bitches who liked to place themselves above a lot of other races in the universe. She hadn't heard the name Thor, necessarily, but she had heard of Loki and Odin in her time traveling the universe. Mostly because of the destruction they'd left behind. She finished the liquor in her cup and filled it again, offering Tony a bit more. Between the two of them, there was probably going to be no scotch left by the end of this conversation.

"Asgardians have a flair for the dramatic. Kree...not so much." She smirked. "Though the cape sounds fun. I almost considered wearing a cape. Okay, not really." She smiled and took a drink of the newly filled mug.

"So...did he name himself after the god Thor or was it a vise-versa sort of thing?"

Hulk sounded like someone they'd want on their side. Carol nodded. "There's a warrior on Sakaar that reminds me of. Big green guy, very popular. I lost a bet once because of him." She didn't really get to stay on the planet for that long. There was always something else she had to do- another emergency to rush off to solve.

Tony finished off his scotch in one quick swallow before letting Carol top him up because it was starting to feel a little bit like he ought to just be keeping up now. Not like a competition, exactly, but something close enough. An unspoken competition, maybe.

"I can't think of a single advantage to having a cape," he said honestly, even if a proper set of drapes did hang dramatic and striking on Thor. Didn't matter, it wasn't for him. And he couldn't see it being for Carol either. "But I'm pretty sure it was the vice versa. Norse legends after him and not the other way around? I don't know. It's a headache to consider."

Tony's eyebrows rose over that though. "He is a big green guy. One who'd sort of gone missing in space for a year or so. Might have been him." Weird to think that Bruce had been one of Tony's better friends before falling off the map so suddenly.

Carol probably should have warned him that she was a quick drinker and that it took her more to feel anything from the alcohol due to her powers and Kree blood. But where was the fun in that? Especially seeing Tony Stark think he stood a chance. So, she let him and kept mum for now. She'd make sure she stopped pouring before she had to carry him home (hopefully).

"Yeah, neither could I. Kept thinking about how I could get caught in a jet engine or something, and that wouldn't be any good." Mostly for the get. She was pretty sure she'd just blow through it and be fine, but it wasn't worth the risk.

"Huh." She was letting it settle that Tony's Thor could be the same as the mythological Norse god, Thor. Another drink and she shook her head. "How old is he?"

Tony's description sounded dead on, and Carol tilted her head to one side. "Your Hulk didn't wear purple pants, did he?" She was starting to think they were one int he same. "I almost took him on for the hell of it, but didn't have the time. Now I kinda wish I had."

Vision decided to join the party, and he dressed well for the event. By dressing up, he meant arriving in a humanoid form that wouldn't earn him so many stares. A robotic figure was certainly more comfortable, but he was very curious in observing how this population interacted with one another. He was curious who they were, where they were from, and all of the questions in between. So while he did not always concern himself with fitting in, he merely thought to blend in on that particular evening to help things move along smoother.

He found Tony perched on a stool and took it upon himself to seat himself on the empty stool just next to him. "Good evening," he greeted warmly. "What have you chosen as your beverage tonight? Or at least the debut beverage of the night?"

It might not have been his natural form, but Tony'd recognize Vision just about anywhere. He'd be stupid not to, considering that the guy was -- well. Tony'd made him, and in flesh or synthetic, nothing could ever hide that voice. JARVIS lived on in that voice.

Sometimes it made Tony long for days long gone.

Not always though. Because Vision was his own person now, and a lot of things were better for it.

"I was wondering if you'd show," he admitted, glancing into his coffee mug. "It's scotch. A Carol special, if I've ever had one." Which he had. Several by now, in fact.

He watched one balloon crawl on the floor, pushing its way past them and through the crowd. "It has been too long since we've partaken in an event such as this one. It's nice to see you unwind a bit."

"Sometimes it's coffee," Tony pointed out, because it was true. Just not always. And certainly not when he had other options that he'd been denied from for a while now. He'd be blitzed by the end of it all, he knew, and was already mentally preparing himself for wandering around until he remembered which house he lived in. It was a lot more difficult when it wasn't much larger than all the other buildings.

"It has," he agreed, because while Viz had been one of the ones who'd stayed after the accords, he'd also been more distant. And he'd gone off to visit the others when he thought Tony wasn't paying any mind. "I don't know if unwinding is the right word," he admitted but then shrugged. "You doing okay? Settling in?"

"Things have been strangely peaceful since I have arrived," Vision replied honestly. While the statement was worded in a way that seemed lighthearted, there was a distinct expression of confusion on his face. He sighed gently and slowly fixed his gaze on Tony. "I know that should be good news, but I am unable to settle my mind on what tranquility this place offers us."

"There are various ideals in this place that I favor very much, and I truly appreciate how kind everyone has been since I first arrived," he reasoned aloud. "However, having been pulled moments before my end leaves me unsettled. How have you adjusted since your arrival, knowing all that was left behind?"

"That's a sentiment I can get behind," Tony said with a little huff that was somewhere between a laugh and a sigh because Vision really had it the mark on it's head. "It's weird, knowing everything is quiet. I constantly feel like I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop." But then, that was always how Tony felt, and he was almost always right about that.

Still, there were some things he liked about this place.

"I'm -- it's better," he said, thoughtful. "I left a lot of bad behind. There was -- you know. Everyone was gone." There was still a huge part of him though, that felt like it was on him to fix it.

“This morning, when I left my residence, there was absolute silence in the streets. There were birds singing, and a gentle breeze…” While it was a pleasant feeling to most, Vision wore a puzzled expression as he spoke about it. “The stillness was tranquil, but unsettling.”

The routine he was accustomed to living out was one of negative energy, and it was therapeutic in knowing he wasn’t alone in such thoughts. “Yes, there was a lot of chaos that was left behind, but fate has strange ways of working things out,” he figured in reasoning. “If you are here, I’m here, and others… I’m sure those who were left behind will all make their way here. It is only a matter of time before the universe allows that pathway to make itself known to everyone.”
