Who: Steve Rogers (mcu) and Carol Danvers
What: Captaining
Where: Toward the trees
When: Wednesday afternoon
Rating: Low I'd say

It wasn't that he was avoiding the doors, people were going through them and returning, it seemed safe enough and a good way to expand on what they had. There were things Tony needed to upgrade the systems he was working on, tools and materials they'd need to make them more comfortable but Steve hadn't ventured through yet. There was actually plenty to do there to keep him busy, people were arriving and Steve wanted to make them feel comfortable. Of course there was also that he wanted to meet everyone and get a feel for them, so if there was a problem it didn't take him by surprise.

Not to mention Steve would be kidding himself if he didn't say there were moments of the quiet life that he enjoyed. That morning cups of coffee in hand he and Tony had walked along the water, not saying much just wordlessly taking the long way back to their house. There wasn't anywhere to rush to or worry about and it was quiet.

But Steve's latest project was a gym, so he'd come out to find some good sized trees to become the corners of a good old fashioned boxing ring. He'd already sized up a few, getting them the same size would help down the track.

"That's them, but we dealt with it, they didn't see Tony coming, that was for sure," Steve said and the pride was warm in his voice.

"That was the name of his project, The Avengers Initiative," Steve explained. The thing with Fury was there was always more than what was on the surface, he was a man with a number of plans and he played everyone, telling them when he wanted them to know. It was for the perceived greater good but it hadn't gone all that well, but Steve could relate to that.

They were putting things together now, Fury had clearly had the idea after meeting Carol and seeing what she could do. When the Chitauri had come to earth they'd handled it, as a team and Steve was proud of that, but Thanos? Well it hadn't seemed to matter how many of them there was, it hadn't been enough.

"I guess he named us after you then," Steve said with a little smile. "At the very least you qualify for membership, so welcome aboard I guess." What had happened was terrible and it felt like everything was his own fault, his responsibility. But at that point in time, in that place, there wasn't much they could do.

Except make do.

It sounded like Steve had a story there, and Carol filed it away in the back of her mind to ask for the full details later. What had Tony done to beat off an army of Chitauri, she wondered?

The Avengers Initiative. It sounded like something Fury would come up with. Leave it to him to make things more complicated than they had to be. She'd given him a pager for a reason- she had expected to be called sooner, especially if there was an alien threat. But, of course, he would have to come up with another solution. Maybe they wouldn't have even been here in this place if he'd just hit the button the first time.

Membership? She smirked a little as she realized what he was saying and cocked her head to one side. "Wait, does that mean I get to be the captain, now? Since the team was, technically, named after me? That's how it works, right?" She was kidding. Sort of.

There would be time later to exchange war stories and Steve wanted to, but maybe with a beer and a few more people, Tony was better with the details making them sound all impressive and Steve was more likely to downplay. They'd get there.

A grin spread across his face as she asked if she was The Captain and he gave a half shrug, half nod. "There's room for more than one Captain you know," he pointed out. "You seem at least reasonably qualified for the job and all," Steve added as he gave her a very quick once over. "Besides I've not really been Captain of much recently, so sure, I think the job's yours."

Steve gathered a few logs over his shoulder ready to get them back to there intended destination. "Especially with all your help here, how could I refuse?"
