Who: All the town kids who want in
What: Hot Tub Party
Where: Tony's house
When: Today

This place was great, his dad wasn't around and he didn't have classes or tutors or anything to bother him. And he had a house full of bots and his pokemon, it was quite possibly the coolest place he'd ever been and people were coming over, it was gonna be a party!

Sure he didn't do much in the way of planning but he had his fridge full of cheese and there were drinks everywhere and Dum-E would totally make juice if people wanted it, it seemed to be about all he could do but Tony loved him and he was glad to have him there.

And well .... it was gonna be cool, he'd never had a party before, not with kids his own age so he was ready and he was antsy kind of pacing a little bit while he waited for people to show up. And just when he thought he had it all ready Tony realized there was one thing left he needed and quickly found a piece of paper and some tape scribbling a hasty note and taping it outside on his door.

Come on in! It's party time.
No adults allowed!!!

No. Eddie had never been sick. He was actually a perfectly healthy little boy whose mother had faked illnesses in him. He was too aware of what the children's wing in the local hospital looked like. Too familiar with picking up prescriptions at the drug store. He'd been hospitalized and bed ridden over things that had never existed in him in the first place. He didn't even need his inhaler. He could breathe easily so long as he wasn't having a panic attack. He wasn't sick but it was easier to believe he might be than to believe that his mother had made the whole thing up to keep him scared and close or that she would hurt him in anyway.

Part of thinking he was sick for liking the things he liked, the person he liked, was a sort of justification of everything he'd been through. He was sick just not in the way she expected. In other ways. Ways that couldn't be fixed by pills or doctors.

The longer he was away from her and the pills, however, the more he began to think that she was wrong. Sure, he still insisted because saying so out loud was kind of terrifying. Coming to the realization that his mother didn't have his best interests in heart and was hurting him was too scary to actually think about or come out and say to anyone. So he wouldn't. He didn't. Not even to Richie.

He liked Richie. He more than liked Richie. He like-liked Richie in a way his mother wouldn't have approved of. She would've found fault with it in spite of how right it felt. How good it felt to be around the other boy. How nice it had been to hold his hand. How clinging to him now made Eddie's heart soar while simultaneously not being quite enough. It didn't convey things enough. Not like Richie's words...

He both knew the song and didn't but that didn't matter. He understood the meaning. Nothing was going to tear them apart. There was nothing Eddie could do or say (other than something he never would do or say and, even then, it might not work) that would drive Richie away or make him turn his back and give up on Eddie. He pulled back just enough to stare into Richie's eyes and that happiness, that joy that was directed at him, caused by him. It was his breaking point.

He'd seen Bill and Bev do it once. He'd seen Ben do it too so there was no mystery about how it was done. He couldn't fuck it up. His hands moved to both sides of Richie's face again as he pushed himself onto his tiptoes and pressed his lips against the other boy's in a clumsy sort of kiss.

No, there really wasn't a hell of a lot that Eddie could ever say that'd make Richie change his mind. He'd been in love with Eddie for about as long as he could remember now, and even when they annoyed each other, that had never changed. No, Richie had been finding excuses to poke at and lean on, and walk up on curbs in order to lose his balance in Eddie's general direction since about forever and he was gonna keep on doing that. Especially now that he basically had just made a verbal contract with Eddie about it. Way better than a ten minute hammock rule -- this was the sort of agreement that Rich wouldn't soon pretend to forget about.

He could live in this moment forever, he decided. Replay it on a bad day, or when he felt nervous or sick or like maybe he was doing something wrong just for being himself. Maybe it'll help him remember that it wasn't, that he didn't need to always have to hide behind a joke when he was scared. Because Eddie liked and had hugged him and --

And Richie lost every single thought he'd ever had and might ever have again in a quick whoosh because Eddie leaned back a little from the hug only to come in close again and kiss him and it was clumsy but not really sloppy because Eddie probably didn't know the meaning of the word and honestly it was just a peck of the lips to start and Richie might have died happy with just that but for the fact that he was given just enough opportunity to kiss back and he couldn't not. He had no fucking idea what the Rolling Stones had to say about this but Richie was all the fuck over it, leaning in until his glasses bumped up against Eddie's face and who cared because this was everything he wanted and maybe even more.

This was... nice. It was nowhere near as gross or scary as he thought it would be. Well, maybe not as gross. It was still fucking scary. He was pretty sure the entire party could hear his heart pounding out of his chest. So it was scary as hell but... it was nice. Richie's lips were soft, warm, and there was something else to it too. Something that shot through him like an electric charge, that left him feeling warm all over. Something that made him blush bright red from head to toe.

And that was just a light peck to the lips. He was completely unprepared for the way it all just seemed to build when Richie kissed him back. Like everything Richie did it was rough around the edges, a little overly enthusiastic. Maybe he pushed too hard or too much but everything about it was Richie and that meant it was perfect.

He could've lived in that moment. His hands on Richie's face, their lips pressed together, and Richie's arms still around him. He could've forgotten about the party and the other kids if something hadn't caught his attention. He wasn't sure what it was. Maybe it wasn't the party or the other kids at all. Maybe it was something in him. Something he didn't quite understand. Whatever internalized fear caught up to him in that moment had him pulling back. Not pushing. Never pushing. He didn't want to push Richie away. He just needed to end the kiss. For a moment he just stared up at the other boy, eyes wide and face red. Before turning and running without explanation.
