gift fic for kinky_kneazle, Snape/Lupin, adult

Recipient: kinky_kneazle

Author: r_grayjoy
Title: A Carol Sung Off Key
Characters: Snape/Lupin
Rating: NC-17, adult
Content Info: *wall!sex, frottage, masturbation, somewhat unintended
voyeurism, snark, silliness, Dickens is spinning in his grave
*
Summary: Seven months after the end of the war, Severus is as much of a miserable, disagreeable misanthrope as ever. Then Lupin arrives bearing a message. Said message is absurd, not to mention unoriginal. Also, Lupin makes a terrible Jacob Marley.
Disclaimer: Anything you recognize belongs to Rowling or Dickens. Anything utterly ludicrous most likely belongs to me.
Word count: ~13,900
Author Notes: My most heartfelt thanks to those who kept me from falling in the muck while I slogged my way though this and then still liked me enough afterward to beta for me. <3 (Also, I realized that my beta and support crew this time around can be abbreviated "SNERT", which, considering the tone of this fic, amuses me far more than it probably should.)

Another heap of gratitude and groveling to the [info]snapelyholidays mods for being incalculably awesome.

In addition, Mr. Black would like to thank E. for his huge piece of meat.

Dear kinky_kneazle: When I read your list of likes, somehow "Christmas/holiday themes" and "time travel" blended in my head and produced... this. (Also, I might have taken "friends supporting the relationship" a little farther than you had in mind. *snicker*) I tried to put a bit of a new spin on an old theme here. In any case, writing for you was great fun. Hope you enjoy, and very happy holidays to you!

Wow! That was wonderful. Dickens's Christmas Carol is my favorite holiday story, and I love your take on it, Mystery Author. In fact, I love this most where it deviates from the original. Remus might make a terrible Marley, but he makes a fantastic third ghost. Great pacing! To concentrate everything on this one aspect, the relationship between those two, makes for a fantastic, well-rounded, perfect, story.

Love it to pieces!

For me? *squeals excitedly* Oh, I totally adore Christmas stories, and Dickens wrote the classic, and that this is based on A Christmas Carol is just all kinda awesome. I love that it's its own story, with deviations from the original and Sirius as the Ghost of Christmas Present and that epilogue!!! *loves*

Snape stays so completely himself throughout, even as his eyes are opening, and Remus is the same, though finally taking a chance. This made me laugh out loud as I read it, and has left me with a huge grin on my face.

This is just completely amazing from start to finish. Thank you so, so much, Mystery Author!

Oh! A Christmas Carol is my favourite holiday story and I always go through the holiday exchanges in the hope that someone has played with it. I really enjoy the way you've made it your own, and I love the relationship you've built between Severus and Remus. Well done!

This was great fun -- such a clever take on A Christmas Carol, with your wonderfully-grumpy Snape (poor man -- to be neither idolized nor reviled, but just ignored), and perpetually-teenage-mineded Sirius with his meat jokes, and the excellent presentations of Lily and Lupin. Snape is so well-characterized; I love his hilarious surly thoughts about things like "ghostly sherbet lemons" and about not being assaulted with poor grooming, worse grammar, and a wholly unacceptable degree of jolliness. The plays on Dickens' lines are great.

Funny, poignant, satisfying.

What a fun story, Mystery Author and really, perfect for the holidays.

I love that you start things off with Snape having become a non-entity after the war. It's not a take I've seen often but it really makes sense that the WW would be relieved to see the back of him.

I loved Lily as the ghost of Christmas Past, it allowed you to put in little bits of information which fleshes out the Lily/Severus friendship in a way we missed in the books.

Sirius and his big, honkin' piece of meat! Come on Snape, you know you want to bite it, lol!

The smut? Desperate, fumbling, ohgodI'vewaitedsolongforthis, wall!sex. One of my favorite flavors!

Poor Remus, Severus just couldn't resist letting him know that he watched him slapping the bishop the other night, could he? I love you Snape, you're such a jerk!

And the epilogue is perfect. I like the idea of the characters all having fun elsewhere and of course, Black's notion of a celestial threesome once Remus and Severus make their way to the other side. :)

Well done, this was really a great, fun read! :)

Oh yay! I always love a good spin on 'A Christmas Carol'. I think Severus destroying that letter (OUCH!) and the deviation from the original by having Remus show up were definitely my favorite parts. Though Sirius does make a fabulous ghost. :D Loved the hot, urgent sex. And what a last line! Oh, Sirius, never change. ;) Great job!

A delightful take on the carol. Snape is a perfect Ebenezer, and so well-read, too. And Hagrid would have been wonderful as Ghost of Christmas Present - a jolly Giant, indeed. Too bad about him being alive. But Sirius is a great replacement, and he would go the whole costume for it. And carry a turkey leg just so that he can crack meat jokes.

Your Snape's voice is perfection, and the interweaving of Dickens lines is great. Lovely read.

Happy, happy, happy sigh.

What steady, confident writing all the way through! So funny, so awful, so sexy. Turkey drumstick wand...hmm...is probably branded into my mind forever.

Loved this.

Loved it!

Severus' morose and maudlin self-realization was a great place to start. "No place to go up but up," eh? Remus' Marley/Remus/Ghost of Christmas Future parts were truly enlightening.

Sirius wasn't hateful, Lily was forgiving and sweet, and, well, Remus was all grown-up! Really wonderful way to spend my night.

*gasping from laughter* Okay I wasn't going to read this. My first thought was "not another Christmas Carol fic". But it got recced twice on [info]lupin_snape, one with a blurb. I was hooked.

I've been howling the whole way through and did the prerequisite "dawwwww" at the end. Well done, you made me believe in "Bah Humbug" turning into "Happily Ever After" after all!

This was absolutely delightful! Sirius totally stole the show, as he does. And I quite enjoyed your take on Dickens. Lily made for a lovely ghost of Christmas past, and your pining Remus tugged at my heart a little. As did the idea of Snape simply being ignored after the war. Nicely done, anon!

I really enjoyed this. Loved the snark and Severus's downing comprehension that he missed something important for years. Bravo to Remus for orchestrating and for trying for what he wanted.

Why look...it's only taken a month for me to start reading snapelyholidays! *sigh*

what a clever take on the Christmas Carol theme...and what a really lovely story. I love the casual voyeurism of the afterlife (at least they're all having fun!) and how completely Severus and Remus's lives get to be fixed. Really nicely done. :)
