It's that time of year again...
THIS IS NOT THE SIGN UP POST.
Just to get that out of the way for some of our eager participants... ;)
We're running a bit behind this year, and have re-adjusted the schedule accordingly. For now, here are the rules and the new sign-up form for those who like to start working on your plans to rescue Severus choices before sign-ups begin. :)
The 2011 Snapely Holidays Rules & Sign-Up Form
1. This is a Snape-centric fic and art exchange. All work should contain Snape in some way. It can be told from another perspective, but it must highlight Severus Snape. You must be 18 or over to participate - no exceptions.
2. All work must be new, not just new to the exchange, but created by the author or artist between the time you received your assignment and your due-date. Entries found to be prior work, or plagiarised, will be disqualified.
3. To receive a gift, you have to give one, no exceptions. Last minute, hastily produced, bare-minimum gifts will cause the moddies to look upon you with modly disdain and possibly even turn down such a lack of effort. Don't make us do that. You don't want to know what last minute, hastily produced, bare-minimum gifts turned in past deadline without good cause will do.
4. Stories must be a minimum of 1,500 words. The sole exceptions are shorter stories submitted WITH art. Art should be a minimum of 800 x 600 pixels with legible wording (if used). Photo manips are not accepted for this exchange, except as gifts to the community.
5. NEW RULE All participants must provide at least five different pairing prompts (there is no upper limit) in at least one of the categories (het or slash or our new one, more on that in a bit). No exceptions. Sorry, dividing up your five between two or three categories is not an option. Why? Would you appreciate receiving an assignment with only one or two options to consider?
There is a new category on your sign-up called Gen or Mild where requests for pre-het, pre-slash, romance without sex, or gen may be provided. If this is your preferred area, you must, like the others, provide at least five pairings or scenarios for your assigned author or artist to work with.
Snape solo may be requested under either slash or het, but will not be counted as a pairing.
6. We ask that your story be beta-read or at the very least SPAG (Spelling Punctuation And Grammar) proofed. Brit-picking is a thoughtful element. Art should be vetted by at least one other person with the recipient's request in mind.
7. We shouldn't have to say this, but... all authors and artists, please follow your recipient's request. While you do not have to include every single element they request, please try to honour the request to the best of your ability. These are the most important considerations:
a) Is at least one of their Snape pairings or requested characters/scenarios in your entry?
b) Is at least one element/kink they requested present?
c) Have their squicks been avoided?
The answer to all these should be YES. Participants, give your beta, proofer or picker the link to your recipients request so they can also assure that the answer to a, b & c is YES. This is one case where two (or more) eyes is better than one.
NOTE: Once, despite the best intentions of one participant, an entry where the answer to "c" was "no" got past two betas and four readers, including the moddies. Which just goes to show how even being as careful as possible does not guarantee errors will not happen. So do have someone else check your work - it's not too much to ask.
The moddies reserve the right to re-assign a recipient if their author or artist submits an entry not meeting the above requirements or requiring extensive revision... especially if the author or artist does not respond to emails regarding same.
8. Fics should be in text format or sent as a Word doc with all Smart Quotes turned off and any special html coding (italics, bold, underline, center, etc) included. We will be hosting the art, but please provide us with a thumbnail as well as the main art entry. If you do not, we will make the thumbnail and don't want any complaints about our choice. All art and fic entries should have headers. The headers required will be provided with your assignment. Please do read past the name of your recipient. ;)
9. If you sign up, and there is a problem with your assignment, we want to hear about it right away, not on the deadline date. If you prefer not to write for a specific person because they are your beta or some similar situation, that is fine, just let us know.
The exchange moddies will act as relay between you and the person writing/drawing for you in order to protect the anonymity of the exchange, so if you have a question re: your assignment, let us know so we can get clarification.
If you, at any time, need to back out of the exchange, please let us know as soon as possible, so that we may get a pinch-hitter. We can work with you if there are time-constraints or other issues but let us know ASAP. If we do not hear from you on your due date and you do not have an extension, we will assume you have been incapacitated and will re-assign accordingly.
While we do try to contact late participants, we do not know peoples' schedules or RL issues and it is not our job to track people down or scour through their journals for clues to why they are suddenly incommunicado. It is your responsibility to let us know if you have a schedule conflict.
Our email is snapelyholidays@gmail.com. Please use it. Do ask, even if it seems like a silly question. Don't be afraid, we don't bite. Often.
To keep you informed, aside from the community here, there is now a twitter account you may sign up and follow to keep apprised. Join us at: http://twitter.com/SnapelyHols
Pinch-hitters - we love you. (No, that's not a rule, but it needs to be said)
10. Work is not to be archived elsewhere until artists and authors have been revealed on the community in the form of a master list! Likewise, authors and artists should not openly discuss their entries on their journals or twitter accounts. Your recipient might not be friended to you, but his or her friends could be, so better safe than sorry.
Once the exchange is underway, please email ALL correspondence, including your completed entry, with the pen name you signed up with SOMEWHERE in the subject line or body of your email. This is particularly important if your email differs from your screen name and/or pen name. We will send confirmation of receipt of email asap, so if you do not get confirmation of receipt by 48 hours, then we did not receive it!
Note: confirmation of receipt of your email is not the same as confirmation of safe arrival of attachments, if any. We will let you know if there is a problem as soon as possible.
Lastly, if your recipient drops out or some other situation causes your entry to be orphaned, your entry will be gifted to the community, unless you indicate otherwise when informed.
This is our new sign-up form.
Check the community & the community twitter for the sign-up post on August 14.
In the meantime, please feel free to nab one of our new sign-up banners:
