Title: Certain Death To Nargles

Characters: Severus/Luna

Rating: adult/R

Content Info: *AU: Severus is alive after the Great War. Oral.*

Summary: Severus has escaped from Hogwarts, from the UK, from people. Or at least, he thought he had...

Disclaimer: The world of HP and its characters belongs to Rowling.

Word count: ~3,000

Author Notes: Many thanks to the lovely J/D who managed to find the really shit bits, separate them from the 'that's going to have to do' bits, and also point out any errors or repetitions! Curia, I really hope this hits some of your kinks somewhere along the line. I got Nargles into the title, at any rate!

Yay! Thank you so much mystery author! I really liked your Luna. She was wonderfully direct and Snape couldn't help but like her. XD And your title was awesome. Snape/Luna is one of my favourite pairings and you definitely did it justice!

I loved the fic!

*happy Isaac*

I'm glad you liked it. It was slightly 'sweet'er than is my normal approach to ficcage, so I was somewhat disconcerted with it myself. But I think (I hope!) I didn't make Severus horribly saccharine, and Luna is so fun to write.

This is lovely! The short vignettes are a marvelous choice, allowing the story to unfold in just the right way.

You've kept Luna very IC, and Severus is just the way I imagine he'd be after the war three years on and alone for the whole time - from the place he chose to live, to his reaction to his dawning feelings: The likelihood of anyone liking, let alone loving, him was, of course, impossible. Except with Luna nothing was impossible. In a tent, in the middle of a deserted forest, Severus was slowly but surely falling in love with a woman who evidently reciprocated his feelings. For the first time, perhaps, in his life (he realised with a sense of disbelief), Severus was happy. I can hear his astonishment in those thoughts, and they made me smile. He was struck again by the strangeness of Luna: she didn't want anything from him, wasn't trying to manipulate him in any way. She was doing this because she wanted to. True magic. Indeed. :-)

And how like Luna to understand the difference between liking and loving, and the importance of having them together. And, of course she would have known him from the beginning, and allowed him the freedom and emotional space to choose when and what to reveal of himself- silly of him not to have understood that. ::g::

Very, very nicely done, Mystery Author!

The series of vignettes works wonderfully well, and your Severus is very convincing. As is direct, open Luna.
Loved Severus's minor irritations: broth on each and every occasion.

I loved that sweet and simple ending! I think Luna is totally in character here, an undefended holy fool who meets Severus just when he needs acceptance and simplicity. I like the spare way you tell their story, too.

So sweet and beautiful. You can see exactly why Luna's good for Snape in ways that nobody was ever good to him, and why he needed that. The love/like conversation showed that perfectly. Great work!

What a sweet fun story. I loved Luna here. She's the perfect light to his dark. The flashback to the class she almost slept in was really funny. Well done!

Every time I reach a point of thinking, "you know, I really don't care much for Snape/Luna," along comes a fic like this one to show me how wrong I am. I like the starkness of the setting; it's elemental, for both of them, and that return to basics is ehat makes this relationship believable for me. I like your characterization of Luna: definitely different, but not loony.

Among the many fine lines: She was out of focus, but that didn't matter: in some ways, Luna was always out of focus

He had loved Lily, but he hadn't always liked her. Unknowingly, perhaps, she had always demanded something from him - expected him to be different. Luna expected nothing.

I like the way you stripped this down to just the two of them. We get a chance to see them each clearly, with no filters to distract us. And this:

Previous versions of Severus Snape would have balked at the thought of talking seriously about nargles. He found he had little time for those earlier selves.

Just perfect, how the bedrock personalities remain, even as things change.

What a great story! It's all the things I love about this pairing -- Luna being able to see right through Severus, never being scared off by his moodiness, but loving him for who he is. Lovely.

What a sweet and lovely story!
I love that the solitude gave Severus a chance to listen to himself and Luna and fall in love.
And of COURSE she knew, duh. *g*
Nicely done!

I'm so glad that you had Snape confess his identity voluntarily, rather than have him forced into it. Very nicely done way to bring them together through these vignettes.

Oh, this was a pleasure to read. I love your Luna, who is perfectly herself without straying into caricature. And I really like the style of this, how trim it is and how that setup of carefully chosen words builds up to Snape's naming.

Lovely. :-)

"A kiss of kindness is almost certain death to dangerous nargles."

And I have no idea who nargles are, but this is doubtless the moment that makes the rest of the story. *Makes.* ;)

this was a very lovely story, and you wrote luna so well, and how severus would need someone like luna to teach him how to love.
