and yes, this is a f-locked post and will stay this way.
We've had a few more or less heated discussions recently where feathers were ruffled. Factions were formed. I don't want to take sides, but I'm not impressed. We don't need factions, we want discussions. Discussing means give and take, and not posting a thesis and taking it for the whole truth. I know that we have a few people who do just that, but when you find out that this is the case, then the better option is to leave the discussion rather than getting into endless 'same-olds' where everyone repeats the same arguments and no one gives in an inch.
So, if someone leaves a discussion after it went to and fro for a while, I don't want to see a 'hey, ran out of arguments? I win!' from anyone, but a quiet acceptance that the person leaving doesn't get anything out of the discussion any longer. So you can congratulate yourself for being more tenacious or you can look at the way you posted and wonder if there might be a reason in the way you post, too. But I ask you to do that quietly. This community isn't here to bolster your egos. It's here to bolster Severus' ego, if there are any egos that have to be bolstered.
I don't want to single out people and tell them to ignore this and that post, even though I may have hinted at that in earlier posts today. This just isn't the way I want things to go here. Either come to a consensus or don't, but don't go on endlessly because that usually ends in people calling each other names and reeks of trolling. And maybe ask yourself if that community here is really giving you the kind of discussion you want, or if another forum might be better for your interests. We neither are after head count nor do we want to be converted to one view or the other.
I refuse to make membership moderated. I refuse to moderate strictly. I want different points of view. I want passionate discussion. I expect enough maturity from all of you to know when enough is enough. And maybe that makes *me* the deluded one here...
Cough, off to more pleasant endeavours. ;)
