Title page (I just thought of doing one today, so it doesn't yet exist):
Severus Snape hated birthdays,
particularly his own. Well, it wasn't
so much the birthdays that he hated,
as the fact that the Headmaster
always insisted on making a big fuss.
Here are more reasons Snape hates birthdays.

There is a wheel under the cloud.

The portrait opens up to a childhood scene. Eileen and Tobias should stand off the paper, and Tobias should be raising his fist.

Dumbledore asks the fateful question.

He leaves after Snape answers (this could have Fawkes flying out of the picture, but after I made it, I thought it was too busy):

Filch and Mrs. Norris have been there the whole time.

Dinner in the Great Hall. Lupin scratches his head while Snape at stabs his food. The back-drop is a photo a friend took at a recent Radiohead concert -- amazing lighting.

Later that evening...

The door opens to reveal one of Lupin's presents.

A happy ending? Snape's arm moves to clink glasses with Lupin. The fire will be cut out and a wheel placed behind it so it flickers.

One more page to do -- a birthday cake with "Happy Birthday, Severus" written on it. I will use HIROKO's template here to do that.
I will write to get your address so I can print and assemble this book,
geri_chan. I hope you enjoy it!

And oh...so sad, the scene with Tobias and Eileen fighting, and young Severus slipping away unnoticed with the cake still on the table really adds a poignant touch. *sniffles* And I do like Filch and Mrs. Norris lurking in the background of the next scene with Snape and Dumbledore.
And aww...Lupin looks so sweet with the chocolate cake hidden behind his back! I love the last picture with them clinking glasses--it really illustrates the hopeful mood that I was trying to convey.
Thank you, thank you, thank you so much! Words cannot convey what an incredibly awesome gift this is! This is way beyond what I expected and I can't tell you how thrilled I am to have the whole story illustrated and made into a book--with pop-ups, even! ^__^
How cool, a popup book. Really magical and funny and touching.
the Eileen/Tobias panel is really haunting. The head table is a delight, and the gentle smirk of Remus is made of win.
Brava!
