Note: this is a prequel of sorts to Motherless Child, in which Snape and Lupin marry and adopt a child. This takes place before the series begins, soon after the end of the first war against Voldemort. Warning for some very nasty homophobic attitudes and language.
Severus bit back a comment about Lucius doing exactly the same thing to save his skin. The man was a condescending fool, but he had his uses. “My personal life isn't at issue, Lucius. The Muggles are dying, and the government have done nothing. I can understand why they might be upset.”
“Perhaps.” Lucius took a pinch of snuff – a recent and annoying affectation – and inhaled. “Why do you concern yourself with them? They've nothing to do with us.”
