Hermione Granger was an excellent potions brewer but less than adequate at discipline, as Minerva found after the Ravenclaw and Slytherin second years collaborated on a potion to "save Professor Snape." Severus, who had hidden in Hermione's book bag to get into the classroom, hadn't helped matters by emerging from under her desk and hawking a hairball onto her boots in the middle of her opening lecture on safe handling of doxy venom.

Hermione had stayed after putting a Kitty-Be-Gone charm on the classroom, but that hadn't helped Severus as Halloween approached. Would he ever be able to turn back?
