“Severus, I’m almost out of burn salve and pain potions. Would you have time to make any this week?”

Severus looked up from his brewing and frowned at Poppy. “I’m rather busy. I have two sets of exams to grade plus three lengthy essays. Not to mention replenishing the pick-me-up potions in the staff room cupboard. Couldn’t you buy some at the apothecary in the village?”

Poppy sighed. “I suppose I can if I have to, but nothing they make is as good as what I get from you.

Severus suppressed a smile. “Well, I’ll see what I can do.”

"Thought we'd be working on spells, not etiquette." Shunpike blew another bubble at the sight of Narcissa's antique Wedgwood and Murano crystal set for service a la Russe. "What's this?"

"A snail fork," said Snape. He summoned the instrument, conjured a plate of perfectly cooked escargot, and demonstrated.

"Snail? What'd anyone want with that? Disgusting, I call it." Shunpike grudgingly stuck his snail with the fork and yanked. Liquid shot out of the shell and splattered the snowy linen cloth. "Messy, too."

Snape took a deep, tense breath as the young man complained. At least this lesson didn't involve ortolans.
