A and B were inseparable for most of their childhood and into high school. After graduation, A took off for college and never looked back, while B stayed put in their little Podunk town. They kept in touch for a while but, as some folks do, they drifted apart. A found a lot of success out in the big wide world - as well as plenty of excuses to avoid going home to visit - but now he doesn’t have a choice but to head back to the middle of nowhere some twenty years later. B has made a cozy little life for himself as the town sheriff. Small town crime being what it is he spends most of his day checking in with folks and slapping a few wrists of budding teenage hooligans. The two assume that they’ll fall back into that easy friendship but things have changed. One isn’t the All-American stud he used to be and is dealing with some mid-life self-consciousness. The other has been out and proud but feels like he might have to reel it in so he doesn’t scare off his old friend or make things awkward.
Maybe the other is closeted and it makes the scared, secret, experimental moments in their youth far more significant now. Maybe A is trying to hide the fact he got into some legal trouble and served some time. Maybe there’s ghosts/magic/werewolves involved. Why not? Let’s sprinkle in some playable townsfolk to help bulk up the awkwardness and angst.
I’m after something that’s fun to write, nurtures some creativity, and doesn’t hinge entirely on smut (though I’m happy to make smut a part of it). I’ve got a full-time job that can be exhausting some days, so I’m not about to demand my writing partner tag every day (or every other day if it’s not possible). I also have no business insisting on novel-length tags if that’s not your thing. Bring me your “unusual” PBs or quirky plot elements! I just want to have fun writing again.
