Looking for a bit of small town romance for this gent. He's had a rough go of things - left home for the sake of a marriage that failed miserably, served a short stint in prison. Now he's trying to start over somewhere new (preferably New England or the Pacific Northwest). I'd love a pb that's close to or in their 40's, but I would consider a bit more of an age gap if the line has substance to it. I'm flexible with particulars of the line and always up for brainstorming a bit.
I'd also be down for a "reunited lovers" kind of line. They had a thing while your guy was in school/working in France but time ran out on their affair and they had to part. My guy moves to the States and they run into each other, perhaps over a decade later. Turns out they never forgot one another or all those nights they shared.
