Who: Jadis White, aka The White Witch and Abby Donne, aka Xaphania
When: Friday evening
Where: a few blocks from the Welcome Center
What: Xaphania finds getting used to her human body difficult
Rating: Low at the moment
Status: closed

Xaphania had spent a frustratingly long period of time examining the full boundaries of this city before accepting that she would not be able to get out. She couldn't travel through the city to another world either. It seemed she was good and sealed off from everything.

She'd taken a human body before, but this was different. Xaphania had a feeling this was going to be a little more different. Still, she was immensely relieved to see that she didn't have to come up with a daemon for herself. That was always more difficult. The woman she chose was older, but not too old, and fit a deinition that many would call 'pretty'. After taking the form, she walked around, trying to get used to the body. Someone had noticed her ... discomfort and asked if she was new arrival. When she heard she wasn't the only to get stuck, her interest was fully piqued. No longer needing to pretend to be a native human, she eagerly accepted directions to the Welcome Center.

The immediate thing was the lost of senses. A breeze blew and in her human form, she barely felt it. The ground was springy in her shoes, and already she missed the freedom to fly. There might be some strange people about, but a being made entirely of Dust was sure to draw far too much attention - more than was needed at the moment. If the time ever came when she needed to, she could rearrange herself into something more practical, or shed the layers entirely.

It wasn't until she had walked a bit that Xaphania realised she'd need a human name. So many to choose from. She had used Abby Donne before and found it more than suiting, so she decided to stick with that. As for where she was from ... she had just come from checking in on Lyra, and that was a world vastly different from this one. Perhaps that would suit her. Perhaps Will's world would. Perhaps a different world entirely. She would make up her mind when she arrived.

If she arrived. The directions had been horrid, even by human standards, and Xaphania found herself having to ask for them again.

"Excuse me," she said to a woman who looked a bit like her. "I'm looking for the Welcome center."

Well, well! And what have we here? Jadis was just on her way back to her penthouse, about to hail a cab actually, when she was stopped by fresh meat. Must be yet another puppet for the show - maybe this one would be useful too, and not just some sniveling whiny brat good for nothing except curling up in a corner and weeping.

She was such a people person.

"The Welcome Center?" In all honesty, the woman looked like she'd fit better in Jade's torture chamber of a bedroom. Oh well. "Yes, it's just..." Her icy blues narrowed into a speculative squint. "Just make a left up there, and go about three blocks. You should see it on the right. You just arrived? Welcome to the new Hell."

"New Hell?" Xaphania asked, looking at the woman curiously. She was said to be from hell. The Authority said all those banished from Clouded Mountain could go live with her in hell. Many worlds threatened that without blind obedience to him, they would reside in hell with her.

Oh, and how Xaphania wished it were true - for millenia she wished it was really that simple. But that was not to be so. Until Eve came again, she had been powerless to help the dead. Even now, the only power was in life.

"Yes, I have just arrived. Have you been here a while, or have you always been here?"

"I have been here for a few months, but I am not...from here," she replied carefully. Narnia was entirely different than the human world, whatever human world this was supposed to be, and while she had adjusted as best as she could (by coating the state in a gigantic summer snowstorm, for example) there were still things she would never get used to. And didn't want to. "My name is Jade White," she stated, and since people in this world liked to 'shake hands' she offered hers.

Xaphania nodded. That seemed to be the case, you were either from here, or from another time and place and couldn't leave, much as she was unable to leave. It wasn't that she was from a different time and place, though. She just wasn't from here. It was hard to explain, but she'd go along with being a 'New Arrival'. She was glad this was a world where daemons and men didn't live side-by-side. That would have been extremely difficult.

She took Jade White's hand and smiled, "I'm Abby Donne. It's a pleasure to meet you."

"Likewise." Jadis smiled in her mysterious way - some days she did it even better than the Mona Lisa. "Where are you from, Abby?" she wanted to know then canted her head to the side, indicating movement perhaps. "Shall we walk? I can accompany you to the Welcome Center, if you'd like."

"I would like the accompaniment, thank you," Xaphania said, gracious for the offer. She smiled, thinking of how she could explain where she was from. "I'm from a flying mountain," she said, thinking of the Clouded Mountain. How many eons had she been unallowed to call it home and now she could return? "There's nothing really majestic about it. Nothing like the anbaric power and road-transportation you have here. It was heaven."

She smiled again and tried to imagine the light of the sun on her wings when she was younger and standing overlooking the great earth below. But her human body and her human skin couldn't have any concept of it, so it remained a memory.

"A...flying mountain?" Jadis repeated as they began to walk, unsure if she had heard correctly. Well! That was certainly something new, though it's not like where she came from could boast any sense of 'normalcy.' "It sounds quite nice," she noted. "I find that this modern world is very...noisy. And polluted, and overall disgusting. But since there's no way out, I try to make the best of it."

So did she mean literally Heaven, or was she merely using it as a descriptor? Hmm. Curious indeed.
