Simon Tam ([info]can_swear) wrote in [info]silverage,
Simon had a feeling he was going to be getting that reaction a lot, and he grinned slightly. "It's ..." he hesitated as he tried to find a way to explain it in terms that she'd be able to relate to. He thought an airplane might be a place to start, or a recreational vehicle, but neither of them quite conveyed everything that Serenity was. "You know how airplanes fly through the sky? A space ship is ... similar, but it travels through place instead, and it's big enough for us to live on, and store cargo. We can travel to different planets and moons, and ... anywhere in the known universe." He hesitated. "I'm ... not really sure that helps any."

Given the year she'd said she was from, he really doubted it would help, but he honestly had no real basis of comparison to start with. It was kind of interesting to realize just what a range of dates people were being pulled from, and he wondered if there was anyone from further back than that. "There is that," he agreed in response to the statement about his profession. The methods, mentality, and tools might be different, but the idea was the same.

"Simon Tam," he replied as he took her hand and squeezed it gently. He had an idea of what the position had implied, but he wasn't really comfortable with that. "Pleasure to meet you, Gina."
