So a bit more than a spare part then? “Um, no. I mean, there’s a few big businesses. Ya know, manufacturers and the like. So they might have something.” Rose bit her thumb, taking a moment to think. “One of them makes weapons. I saw it on the bulletin yesterday. That might be a start. Probably nothing useful at first, but maybe you could build something. I could chip in if money was an issue.” Probably not much but Rose figured it was best to make friends where she could. She wouldn’t be much help with the actual technology, but she could at least try to offer something.

“You only get the beard if you’re really powerful, I think,” teased Rose. “The staff sounds cool though. What kind of stuff does it store?”

2267? That was a good number of years before the fifty-first century. Still, they sounded fairly advanced. Which was good. She couldn’t even mention a CD without getting a blank stare in return.

“No. Definitely not,” she agreed. “My friend, the Doctor, had this ship we were traveling in. This light sort of engulfed it and the next thing I know I’m in 1964. I thought he and Jack might have gotten caught up in it, but I haven’t been able to find them. Anyway, I know,” and the confidence was evident in her voice, “that if I could just get my phone to work, he’ll be able to find me.”

Rose bit her lip. She was almost tempted, if only to ease the burden. But as friendly as this guy seemed, she still knew very little about him. She had done the whole ‘trust the mysterious stranger’ bit. And, while she wouldn’t change it for the world, her decision to do so had also gotten her stuck in 1964. She couldn’t afford to make that mistake again. So she put on a smile. “Oh, I’ve done alright. Nothing terribly exciting, but I managed to find myself a job, food,” she holds up the half-forgotten basket as an example, “and a roof even. But thank-you.”
