It had been another night walking the city streets, occasionally taking advantage of the primitive public transit system, learning the area, reading the newspapers. It was time to head back to his ship at the bottom of Meadow Lake next to the World's Fair.
He noticed a young woman sitting alone on a bench, eating something that was probably bad for her. Even on a passive scan, she had a temporal energy signature. Given the lateness of the hour and the lack of bystanders, he risked an active scan, knowing that nobody would be able to see the change in his eyes.
Galen walked over and sat down on the opposite end of the bench from the woman. "Hello, miss," he said softly. "Judging by your energy field, you're a fellow time traveler. You wouldn't happen to have a way off this rock, would you?"
