Il n’y a qu’un bonheur dans la vie, c’est d’aimer et d’être aimé.
1167 Adelaide Avenue was a home only by definition. The old Victorian had been converted into a tea and antique shop and the conservatory, which she had rented to serve tea, grew from the side of it both beautiful with its glass walls and rising roof relieved with various pieces of stained glass and industrial with its dark, iron framework and copper gutters and downspouts. The interior was warm enough that Ele didn't feel a chill in the light weight dress she wore. The cotton frock in cream had a fitted bodice with a flared skirt, embellished with a floral and butterfly design that was so vibrant and colorful, the little creatures nearly looked alive. As always, she favored conservatism with a boat neckline and old school elegance by accessorizing with pale pink pearls.
Also to be expected was how picture perfect everything was. The floor of the conservatory was black and white checkers which made the green of the plants and colored flowers even brighter as they lined the perimeter of the room, hung from the ceiling, and even climbed the walls. Besides the flora and fauna, a table sat in the center of the room, covered with crisp white linen and circled by five chairs. In the center were tiered trays of sweets from eclairs, to tartlets, varied macarons, and tiny trays of raspberry creme brulee. The tea would be brought out once her guests had arrived. It was about as proper a tableau for a real, civilized tea as she could manage.
Ele waited, her fingers hooked behind her, marveling at how it could be so snowy outside but so warm around her. Hopefully the company would be good and the afternoon would get much warmer.
