Announcing the Anti-Valentine's Day Mini-Fest!

Anti-Valentine’s Day 2011

Dear Members,

Are you tired of the smell of roses and chocolate smudges on your favourite skirt? Do you feel nauseated by the sickly sweet declarations of love and lurid heart-shaped balloons? Then Severus Sighs has the antidote.

To counter the excess of fluff that will no-doubt drench the next month or so up to Valentine’s Day, the Webmistresses would like to announce the Severus Sighs Anti-Valentine’s writing and drawing mini-fest.

If you long for a bit of throw-him-onto-the-bed action, old-fashioned slap-his-thigh masculinity; a smidgen of angst and heartbreak, or just plain things going not as planned, then test your inner Slytherin by joining in.

The rules are very simple:

1. Select from the following list of prompts (these do not need to be inserted verbatim into your story or art, but should be used as your theme) and then fingers to the keyboard to write a story with an unromantic, dark, or farcical theme, or fingers to the crayons to draw the same.

2. All members are asked to notify the Webmistress of their intention to participate by 9th February so that a posting schedule may be arranged.

3. For the writers, your word count should be a minimum of 500 words.

4. All works should use the header included on the site’s User Info page.

5. Remember to Friends Lock all posts rated NC-17.

6. Writers are encouraged to use a beta. For those who have not written before or require assistance, help will be provided by the Webmistresses or by the kind site elves. Just whistle and they come stumbling.

7. Participants should submit their work to the Webmistresses (Severus [dot] sighs [at] gmail [dot] com) by 11th February, for posting during the weekend ending 14th February.

8. Participants are requested to delay posting to personal journals until the evening of 14th February.

9. If you so wish, you may write your first death!fic or dub-con under a nom de plume.

10. Multiple submissions are encouraged.

Prompts:

1. The day was meant to start with a kiss, not end -- completely -- with one.

2. Love philtres, chocolates, perfume ... Yes, for a potion master, there were many ways to exact revenge on Valentine's Day.

3. Severus looked in the mirror, but he just couldn't see the image of a lover.

4. Eenie, meenie, miney, moe ...

5. Severus was nothing to look at, he had no charm or natural confidence to smooth his rough edges, so why was this happening?

6. Severus considered his Valentine's gift a work of art. It was a pity he was alone in this.

7. In a room full of lovers, Severus felt distinctly out of his depth.

8. Severus was going to get his Valentine ... one way or another.

If you are unsure what is meant by ‘Anti-Valentine’s Day’, the following drabble should give you an idea:

Harry paced the room, nervous and beginning to regret the decorating he'd done for the holiday. It wasn't as though Severus hadn't made his feelings on Valentine's Day perfectly clear, even before they'd begun a relationship. He fretted, and adjusted the decoration, deciding finally to remove it as the door opened.

Caught now, he straightened up, put on his most seductive leer—the one Severus had once confused for nausea—and spread his bare legs. Severus' decorated gift stood proudly from a nest of curls.

"Is that a bow on your cock?" Severus asked from the doorway.

"Um," Harry said, no longer so confident, and his wilted cock showed it. "Yes?"

"It's red."

"Er, well...Happy Valentine's Day?"

Severus lifted an eyebrow and drummed his fingers against his crossed arms. Harry began to feel ridiculous.

Well. More ridiculous.

And still very horny. "Right, I'll just remove it then."

"Indeed," Severus said, then looked approvingly at Harry's now bow-less cock. "Now here's something I can celebrate every day."

Harry grinned and leered again.

"Are you feeling nauseous?"

Harry huffed and let his cock do the talking.

Can one of the prompts be just "anti-Valentine's day?" And then we write whatever we want, so long as it has that, "pink-heart-sickening-aroma-of-roses" yeuchhhhhh! kind of vibe?

And why isn't one of the prompts 'darkfic'? dub/non-con? (it does exist as suggestion in the overall prompt description, after all)

And you know excellent prompts for the anti-VD fest? :P Death Eater!fic! There's this deatheaterfest on LJ that has a huge, long list of prompts, only some of which were claimed for the fest itself - I reckon some o' those prompts could be 'borrowed' (indefinitely, hehe) and a fic written about 'em! (with a nice link to the story over on deatheaterfest, that such and such a prompt was used, such and such fic written, and where it lives now that it is born.^^)

*is totally thinking of writing some DE!fic for anti-VD Day* :D

Prompt 1 is indeed meant to be ambiguous. In fact, all of them can be taken one way or another. For example, does prompt 6 mean plans for an elaborate bondage session, complete with shibari, or that Severus *sighs* is crap at knitting? Or is prompt 8 a determination to lower his personal shields and admit his soft, squishy centre or is it your dub/non-con scenario? Even the very ambiguous prompt 1 could be a misunderstanding -- a lovers spat, the world shifting after a fabulous orgasm, or a death!fic?

Therefore, and with options like these, I'm afraid you are not permitted to take the fest title as a theme. After all, where would be the challenge in that?

Well, yes it does mean no prompts will be ... borrowed from the other fest, as the above are conclusive, but, no, it doesn't mean no Death Eater fics. Off the top of my head, I can see four prompts that could involve Death Eaters or a Death Eater-based plot.

This really isn't as restrictive as you seem to think. Check out last year's entries and you will see what I mean.

So Death Eaters OKAY, but death eater prompts (that other people would want written, but haven't been chosen in their own right, to be recycled here, NO. -_- Darn it. Not like, y'know, any of the deatheaterfest prompts have matured in my head or something, buuuuut... how perfect would THE MASOCHISM TANGO been for an Anti-Love fest on V.D.? XD Also, that, hmmm, LOL, Morticia probably *would* consider it the mark of highest honor if Gomez had given her V.D. on Valentines' Day. XD But they're weird that way.^^)

	Yeah, I think you're confusing prompts and plot bunnies. A prompt like the ones above can lead you on a variety of paths. If I wanted to write about Death Eaters I could see several prompts I could use. : ) Can't wait to see what you come up with. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Not after I read your comment and you cleared everything up for me, I didn't! *loves you* (I think *you* are the one who wrote that snarry fic with correspondence letters.... in Harry's school years... and there is red and blue ink on it... Good story. Good times, too.^^).

I think you could still do a Masochism Tango theme with one of the prompts, like so:

#8) Severus is determined to get his reward (and revenge) on Harry Potter. First, he wooes him (start of the dance), then they dance at a Ministry function (an actual Tango), then Harry agrees to return home with him, at which point Sev brings out the bondage (set fire to his tie!). You could even end it with Harry liking the abuse and coming back for more ("my heart is in my hand -- Ewww" *drops heart on floor*)!

OR

#4) Severus comes home to find dark!Harry and his new Death Eater follows ready for some fun. A tango plays in the backround. "Eenie" Sev gets slapped. "Meenie" Sev is asked to drop to his knees, arms over his head in submission. "Miney" Tiny whip marks are made as his clothes are slowly shredded. "Moe" DEs burn their initials into his shoulders with their wands.

OR you can make up your own scenario. Just trying to help the brain-storming bunnies!
