Young Bella and Roddy - a Blast From The Past
Who: Bellatrix Black and Rodolphus Lestrange
When: summer after their first year at Hogwarts
Where: home, in Northumberland
Rating: tba, but probably high, consider the source

The first year at Hogwarts was over, and what a year it had been, more exciting than Rodolphus had ever thought possible. So many firsts, so many possibilities. Even at his young age, he knew that magic was a force in his life to be reckoned with, it had been pretty much installed in him since birth. It was and would remain his life, and this he knew. He had been sorted into the house where all great dark wizards came from, taking his place among his peers.

And shalt be what thou art promised...

Prophetic words indeed.

Best of all, he had Bellatrix there by his side to celebrate. Bella, his best friend and constant companion. There was no one like her in the whole world, and he appreciated her uniqueness greatly. He spent as much time with her at school as he could, and back at home, it was only natural that they be together. He had taught her how to kill, and they had gloried in the spilling of blood, sharing in the bloodlust that consumed them more often than that, a preoccupation that transcended everything else, as well as their shared interest in the blade - Rodolphus adored her for that, of course. There were no other females like her, anywhere.

It was a bright summer day, but they were in the woods between their homes. Rodolphus was annoyed and aggravated, his nose out of joint at an imagined slight by a house elf, and he was using the knife to carve up the corpse of a small squirrel they had killed, deftly eviscerating it - either one could perform an autopsy at a moment's notice, they were so skilled at it. He squatted over the body, mumbling oaths of great profanity, his face flushed in his irateness.

Killing me Softly, Roberta Flack

Jaw dropped for ease of breath, as he plunged into her lungs only to just as soon exit in a push of frustration. Arms bent at her side, hands into a fist as though both motions created a fastness he could not match, but indeed, he could. If he was easily beat, the fun would have diminished. Eyes kept swaying over to where he ran, keeping a good judgment on what needed to be done to succeed her victory.

But the second time she glanced, genius seemed to strike. Her pace slowed and eyes dropped immediately to the uneven land in front of her. Within that quick second, she had herself on the ground. No wasted time, she sent a shout up that would be easily heard from the Lestrange manor. Once Rodolphus glanced back to see what had happened, it was obvious this was just another strategy. A grin was on her lips, but still she kept up the illusion of pain through her shouts.

A hand reached out to him, urging him to hurry over to her. She whispered, stopping only for a moment with the screams to speak to him. "You go in, screaming for the elves and tell them I've been hurt. I'll distract the others while you get that one into an area he won't be seen. Eventually get him into the woods, once the others bring me inside and then I'll meet you back out there."

Her eyebrows perked up, flashing the clever quirk that laid there behind her eyes. Then her hands grasped around her ankle, as she rocked back and forth with a pain that one might have sworn was real.

His first thought was that she was injured and his instinct was to rush back to her, screw the race. But then he realized with his next thought that she was shamming, and very cleverly done, he had to admit, a twisted smile crossing his lips. He leaned down when she grabbed him, taking in her words and nodding his acquiescence, as he noted with grim satisfaction her realistic cries of pain. He raced through the French doors which opened out onto the back veranda, screaming, "Bella's been hurt, Bella's been hurt," as he beckoned to every house elf within screaming range to follow him.

He made sure that several followed him back out through the door, including the one that was his actual target - a middle-aged, for a hour elf, stupid looking git with a bad habit of thinking too much at the wrong times, and acting as if he had some sort of free will.

He herded them toward the writhing figure upon the ground, even as he added to the confusion and noise that Bella was making by screaming out, "Help her, help her, help!" in panic stricken tones.

Luckily, his parents were not too worried of such a matter. Children hurt themselves daily. Not even her own father, who nearly worshiped the very ground she destroyed, would have left his reclining chair to make sure her tears were eased. That grin increased into a smirk for that brief moment complete understanding passed between the pair. Off he went and she had a good minute, maybe more, to work up tears. Easily done, for again, as spoiled as she was she knew precisely what to do to work tears for her cause.

Her head dropped back, as another pretend wave of pain thrust up her ankle, into her leg and to her brain. Easily imagined. Rocking added to the effect of leaking eyes and a tightly clutched ankle. Breathing while she could, it wasn't until the sight of mustered elves and the taller still Rodolphus returned that she recalled the dramatics.

Left arm remained clutching the left ankle, as her hand reached for Rodolphus once more. The elves may have been there to help, but she wasn't going to dare touch them. "DON'T!" She hissed, as one tried to assess the wound. "Go get my mum!" She demanded from Rodolphus, also devising said plan for the sake he would have to go through the woods. Not as true to the original idea, but this was a girl who had to learn to think on the spot. All the better for duelling purposes later on the road.

Once Rodolphus had gotten away with the middle-aged elf and their figures were beginning to disappear in the darkness of the forest, she allowed herself to hobble onto her feet. All in order to at least make it to the patio, before departing them with an excuse that she no longer was in pain.

"Right away, Bella," he agreed, affecting a look of pure terror, as he hastened to carry out his instructions. He had the fleeting thought that Bella was better than any actress in any stage production his parents had ever taken him to see, much more realistic than the best thespians currently in vogue, before he gestured to the house elf in question to come along with him, with the idea that he should carry whatever was needed to be carried. One couldn't expect pureblood Roddy to shoulder the load himself, and soil his lily white hands? Egad, no.

The unsuspecting servant obeyed without question - such a change from the unmannerly wretch that had just to recently disturbed the young master's equilibrium. Rodolphus didn't let his mask of concern slip for a moment - not even up until the very moment when he tripped the poor slob quite deliberately, and as soon as he was on the ground pinned him with his wand to his throat, hissing, "Don't you make a sound, or I'll explode you so fast, you won't know what hit you."

Of course the elf had no way of knowing two things - one, Rodolphus was forbidden to use magic outside of Hogwarts, and two, even if he weren't he knew of no such spell. He was all bluff and bluster at the moment.

For Merlin's sake, she truly was playing this up beautifully. Better than she had ever done before, she determined at that moment. Must have been the severity of the crime this elf had committed against Rodolphus. Well, actually, the excitement that they were to murder something so pathetic and weak yet larger than any other heart they had yet to dissect. It was almost human, in that matter. It spoke and it handled things just as a human would, but nothing more. Emotions were not allowed to the thing. Terror in a man's eyes would have to wait until later.

Playing now with pure disgust and pain, while the elves helped her hop to the patio. Her hands immediately left them when she could reach the stone rail, instead of their support. Using that moment to realize the pain placed on her ankle was nothing. For in all reality, it truly was nothing, she hesitated and looked to them.

One of the older elves reached out to her, offering to guide her further inside but she slapped its hand. "Do not touch me, filth!" Her eyes darted between them, as she stepped back again. Purposefully placing weight on her ankle. "I can make it back to my house. Never you mind. Back to work!" As though they were her possessions already, ordering them around so. Children did change their minds so quickly.

She spun around and darted off in the direction of the house. Making it to the forest until her quickened gait finally ceased. A smirk resting on a single corner of her mouth, all the while searching for the pair. "Rodolphus?" She called, in an too-sweetened whisper. When she located him, the grin turned into a bright smile to see the creature incapacitated.

"We are bloody brilliant."

He turned his head, regarding her with his own brilliant but childish smile, frighteningly tinged with more than a little touch of the sadist, startlingly so for one so young. But then it is questionable whether these two were ever truly young, or whether they were simply old souls from the getgo.

"That we are," he agreed, never easing on the poor creature's throat by the slightest. No remorse, no sympathy, nothing remotely resembling the common courtesy or kindness generally extended to one's fellow creatures ran through these veins, already filled from stem to stern with pure acidity and bloodlust and direst cruelty.

If it were up to him, he would have proceeded to slice the house elf open now, remove his organs in the way of a demented surgeon who wishes to prevent his medical skills from atrophying through disuse - any victim will do. But he knew Bella liked the torture, the long drawn-out journey which led to death, loved to torment, to prod, to poke, to taunt - and he wished to please her. So their virgin foray which would lead to the killing of homo sapiens would begin with the torture, mutilation and death of this sentient creature, with no more consideration for him than were he any of the countless lesser forms that had come before, other than they knew it would be more fun.

"What do you want to do with him?" the precocious child asked, glancing between Bella and the trembling creature, who somehow sensed that this would not end well for him.

It made them wicked. Wicked in a way that a child's laugh could so easily be twisted into something so frightening. That's precisely what had happened, but neither noticed. No, Bellatrix only found it that much more endearing of her childhood playmate.

Hands folded behind her back, as she surveyed the scene around them. A fair enough clearing in the woods that meant they had decent light, but dense enough that neither Lestrange nor Black household could notice oddities. Her gaze lifted upwards, tilting her back as she stared at the sky. Plucking her wand from beneath her skirt, for already she had devised the perfect holding spot there on her thigh. She would not use it, no, but it was for effect. Gave her that feeling of complete power.

The thing pointed to a patch of leaves that seemed to have more colour, more light than the shadowy area Rodolphus had tackled the beast on. "Move him there." She smirked, waiting until the creature followed its master's orders before she knelt beside him, opposing Rodolphus' position.

"What's your name, beast? Do you know the severity of your crimes?" Oh, dear, so very wicked.

"M-m-mayfalk, m-m-milady," the creature squeaked in a voice that seemed octaves higher than that of most house elves, "Crimes? No, missy, no, Mayfalk does not know of crimes, what crimes? Please let Mayfalk go, have work to do..."

Rodolphus loved to watch her work, she was so intent, so very caught up in everything she did. Her very play activities were always serious in every regard. She brought a certain spirituality to their rituals that was most intriguing to watch.

"Tell him if we don't get a proper answer, we'll cut his tongue out," he grinned, pulling out his knife, running the edge of the blade along his finger menacingly. And he meant it too. They already knew the crime, the victim's realization of the same was the least part of today's festivities. The very least.

"Mayfalk?" Unruly curls had fallen in front of her eyes, creating an almost sinister look to so young a child. She scoffed at the sound of his name. "Not only were you poorly named, for I never thought so disgusting a thing to have even worse a title, but you are also a liar!"

This was all some show to her. How incredibly dark could she get? All the world was a stage, after all. The only issue was Bellatrix adored this sort of acting. Nothing more invigorating. She had read so many books, idolised so many horrific human beings to the point of understanding the very way the spoke. It was the calmest of words, infused with complete class that sparked true fear.

The flash of Rodolphus' silver blade caught her attention. "Ahh," she cheered just above a whisper, leaning down to the creature at the same time. "Did you hear that, Mayfalk?" She perked back up to match Rodolphus' gaze, "He already lied. Cut off the tip of the thing." Just the tip. Give him a taste, so he could at least attempt to redeem himself.

"He does lie," Rodolphus insisted, a devilish expression crossing over his face. "He knows what he did. He knows very well. How can you deny it, Mayfuck," he turned toward the family retainer, brandishing the blade for his benefit, as he lowered it toward the elf's mouth, the creature's eyes plainly showing his fear at the young master's apparent intent, and his unmitigated cruelty, as well as that of his companion, the young Miss from next door. Even as he undoubtedly wondered if the boy had it in him, and feared that he did.

Rodolphus used the tip of his blade to pry open Mayfalk's mouth, and although he did not care for the contact he would make an exception in this case, as he cruelly grabbed his tongue, pulling it out as far as he could, yanking on it to keep the elf from closing his mouth or snapping at him as he sliced off the tip of the muscle with a certain grim satisfaction.

"There, Bella," he said, rather proudly, "now let us see how impertinent he cares to be. Answer the question, you wretch, and be quick about it!"

Bellatrix maneuvered herself low over the thing, digging the tip of her wand into his stomach. As much as she wanted to see her reflection sneering back up at her through the whites of the elf's eyes, she couldn't honestly stand looking at the thing that long. Perhaps she'd later learn to favour such a prolonged stare, but now she was too bent on her higher status. Not to mention, Rodolphus had just used and awful word to substitute for the rat's name. Wicked eyes lifted to him, just as a giggle sounded. They may have been old souls, but there were a few things that never changed.

Mirroring his efforts, she watched as he pried open his mouth. Bellatrix's own jaw opened, trying not to laugh as she mocked the beast then with a look of completely feigned horror. The slicing sound alone sent a chill down her spine. This wasn't some forest creature, this was something with some value and purpose.

With the piece of tissue severed from the muscle, Bellatrix was all smiles. If the thing could cry, it certainly was trying. The pain there written on his face, mixed so heavily with utter fear. No one would save him. He was, after all, just a house elf. She quivered her lip, once again jeering against his favour, "Oh does it hurt, Mayfuck? Yes? Oh pity. We'll take..." She looked him over then grinned. "We'll take an eyelid next. SPEAK." Tip of the tongue, eyelids? She was going for the smallest of things, but one that would call immeasurable pain.

The house elf was actually innocent of what wrongdoing he may have committed, but he realized that he was in trouble - deep trouble - and he started moving his lips as if to speak, blood streaming from his mouth from the tip of his tongue, and whatever he might have said was unintelligible due to his severe fright.

Rodolphus' glance of delight flickered between the victim and the victimizer. Bella was every bit as sadistic as he was, and the knowledge thrilled him. She was his cohort in crime, his partner in mayhem, his better half - although the true meaning of that concept would not become apparent for a few years yet. As of yet, they were sexless, they were innocent (at least in that regard), they were appetites not yet awakened and which once brought to life would demand constant gratification - they were demons in the form of children, who were in the process of discovering their soul's contentment.

"Do it, Bella," he urged her, "take an eyelid. Sod it, take two..." Rodolphus realized that there was no surviving what they were about to do, so why not? The creature would have no further use for them.

To them, it was enough of an offence that deserved such extremities. As the blood rushed from his mouth, as though a very vein had been sliced, Bellatrix seemed void of that almost permanent grin she had before. Instead it was narrowed eyes and intense, borderline lustful stare. Although, at such a young age, she had not come to terms with the true definition of lust, but it was the closest thing to. As though teasing him were the best option, though she had no knowledge of even doing such, the tip of her own tongue slid over her lower level of teeth. Noting the difference and freedom she had yet the slave Mayfalk was to his pain.

Hardly glancing, she could feel Rodolphus' stare upon her. Without a word, she knew that he had the same thoughts as she. Like one hand causing the pain, one mind creating the torture. She was the mind and he was the hand. It was beautiful and fascinating, just like the crimson river seeping from a live soul.

Reaching over the elf, she gingerly took the knife from Rodolphus' hand. She had yet to acquire one of her own. And with complete intent on her victim and steadied hands like a surgeon, she used the left to pluck away the protective skin from the eye and the other to saw away until the flesh dangled between her fingers.

The house elf writhed beneath the girl's touch, but resistance was futile, for Roddy thrust the wand against the creature's chest and warned him that he would send a shock through him such as to cause his heart to stop immediately. And Mayfalk ceased to struggle but his trembling could not be stilled and the mute screams which attempted to exit his bleeding mouth at Bella's ministrations.

"Wonderful, Bell," he praised her, his eyes glowing with the admiration he felt for his companion, taking the bleeding flesh from her fingers, their own fingers brushing against one another as the gore covered them both. But he cared not, the feel of blood was not anathema to him, rather it was a familiar comfort, one which in future would become an aphrodisiac as their bodies joined in unholy congress amidst the sanguinity of their victims. But that was then and this was now, and it was warm and velvety and pleasing to the touch...

"Shall we cut off the fingers next?" he asked, seeking to know her preference in the matter. She was welcome to cut as much or as little as she liked. He would do the rest, if she preferred, if she wished to torture him in other ways. Her choice. Even now he followed her lead, in deference to what their relationship was, and to what it would always be.

Chin lifted, as the expression that took consumed her face rushed through every aspect of her body. Spine straightened, her jaw proud and yet there wasn’t a single, extraneous movement from the young girl. No extra energy would be wasted from here out. Her goal was set and there was no reason to stray her mind on something else.

Retracting with the stolen flesh, her eyes met her companion as though it were an exchanged joke only they could understand. Eyelid passed between wizards, even with a single brush of his hand. Touch was not needed, however, for at that moment they were connected despite the physical placement of Bellatrix on one side of the creature and Rodolphus on the other. Her smile was simple, but did not last long as she turned her attention back to the elf.

“Fingers,” with her own finger tapping against her mouth while in thought then she merely shook her head. “No. Too easy.” She passed off the knife, allowing Rodolphus a turn yet again. “Why don’t you carve your name on his belly? As a permanent reminder of whom he serves.”

He certainly liked the way her mind worked, admired her for her creativity, and his beaming smile proved it. He had always enjoyed the killings they had performed int he past, but he already realized that this one was something special, this was some sort of a milestone between them, even if he didn't fully comprehend why that was.

Without being asked, Bella put a more secure albeit distastefully applied hold on the elf, to provide a more stable palette on which the artist could practice his art. He appreciated the sacrifice she was making for him, to enable him to do what she had suggested, touching the foul loathsome beast in this way. He would make extra sure to impress her with his skill.

Cocky and confident, he made an exaggerated moue of disgust as he pushed aside the hapless Mayfalk's ragged excuse for clothing, exposing the bare belly beneath. "He won't soon forget me," he murmured, for the moment forgetting that by the time they were threw, he would forget nothing and remember nothing.

He placed the tip of the blade against the elf's skin, his gazing flickering to the frightened eyes, which filled Rodolphus with a feeling of heightened excitement, a grandiose feeling which flowed through his veins, the same sort of feeling he received from drinking liquor behind his parents' back - exhilarating and intoxicating. He glanced at Bella, seeking her approval as he began to carve his name slowly and carefully into the flesh before him.
