Well...yes, I do. Yes, Tom Strong was somewhat inspired by Doc Savage and OTHER pulp characters. But Doc Savage himself was inspired by other earlier charcters---Tarzan, Sherlock Holmes and Nick Carter, among others. Nevertheless his origin was different from Doc's (unless you want to tell me Doc was raised in a high-g environment) his adventures are waaaaayyy different from Doc's (I've read all the Doc Savage boooks, and I don't recall Lester Dent having a story where the whole city was turned SIDEWAYS.) No character is totally original (Superman was influenced by Doc Savage TOO, not to mention Hugo Danner in GLADIATOR, as well as Flash Gordon) but I consider Tom Strong a separate creation, while still being a tribute to many sources.
Notice I'm NOT making that argument for WATCHMEN, which is just extrapolations of the Charlton characters which Moore would have run under their original names until Giordano/Infantino suggested he make them separate characters.
