When I reread Miracleman recently, I found an editorial by Alan Moore talking about the character's history. He stated that Kid Marvelman was the take on Mary Marvel.

Considering the esteem he is held in, as well as notoriety of the Kid Miracleman massacre of London, I have to wonder if turning Mary Marvel, the original, as evil as her alternate universe self is meant to be an homage to Moore.
