Aw! I have such a soft spot for JJJ being protrayed as an actual human being with ethics and such. Call me crazy.

Ultimate Jameson is really a great character
Bendis did a great job here in my opinion

Agreed. Bendis' J.J>J. in general is pretty great, but the Ultimate version especially.

This. I'd rather it not have taken Ultimatum for him to step up like this, but I really enjoy him having the stones to admit he was wrong.

This wasn't after Ultimatum, this was some time before. What had happened here (IRRC) was Ulrich had been investigating ties between the Kingpin and some politician, and the Enforcers showed up to tell Jameson to CITFO. Spiderman showed up to save him from the Enforcers, and Jameson responded by trying to interview Spiderman, right afterwards coming here.

He still didn't really like Spiderman, for the reasons he describes here, but yeah, this was a really nice bit.

Ah, my mistake. When I saw the bit about the "editorial", I thought it meant the one in Requiem.

I love getting a chance at seeing the man behind the brill-creamed mustache. JJJjr Could be so much more, sadly too many writers give him a 2d personality. Honestly I loved the bits of characterization we see in "MARVELS" and the ocasional scenes like above that they just randomly throw places in the Marvel product line. Usually they are throw away scenes in some shitty stories but over all they are those character breaking moments that remind me why I like comics.

For example, there are some moments where JJJjr is actually hurt by Peter being spiderman. Not angry, not blathering on about lawsuits. But a couple good scenes where he seems genuinely hurt. While arrogant and a prick, JJJjr could be someone worthwhile to look at as a character portrait in a miniseries. An understanding of his persona and his hatred of masks. See the man who covered the wars as a reporter. The less than well off boy raised by a military step father and had a young wish to be Bucky Barnes until his "death" with captain America.

JJJjr is the normal man touched by the "Marvel" and the man is relatively unchanged from being a normal man willing to battle how he can with what he has.

well now, I agree that JJJ doesn't get as much characterization as he should in normal Marvel titles, but Ultimate Marvel did a great job with him consistently

he completely changed his opinion of Spiderman recently - after seeing Spiderman saving people during Ultimatum, he sees him as a hero and publicly apologizes for criticizing Spiderman - he's not the same as the 616 Jameson for sure

There are also some excellent stories that shows WHY he's the editor of the Bugle and WHY his co-workers still sticks around.

That scene where he basically says "Screw you!" to Bastion is one. Another is when he goes to the Kingpin and basically blackmails him in order to get a major story out.

JJJ is probably one of my favourite MU characters when done right.

Or in the first Spider-Man movie, when the Green Goblin has him by the throat and demands to know where he gets those Spider-Man photos, he doesn't hesitate a moment before lying his ass off to protect a freelance punk kid that was just in his office giving him lip.

That man has some big brass ones down there, and a spine of solid Adamantium, and I wish more writers would remember that.

Daawwww. I really like the artist on this. The panel close-up of Peter looking at the window, aside anyway. Nice designs.

This is wonderful! Really the type of scene with J.J.J. I like to see. I really didn't like Ultimatum in any way, shape, or form, but Ultimate Spiderman up until that point was generally really a very enjoyable series. (I don't know what it's like post-Ultimatum; I'm trying not to think about its existance.) Regardless, a great scene!

it doesn't seem too bad
there is a rather large surprise (at least it shocked the hell out of me anyway), but I'm optimistic that Bendis will continue to do a good job
