DC restructured
DC Entertainment is born. Diane Nelson in charge. Paul Levitz continues as consultant and writer (because diane nelson doesn't know a thing about DC probably) http://www.newsarama.com/comics/090909-DC-Restructuring.html

EDIT:Paul Levitz will write Adventure Comics with the Legion of Super-heroes http://www.newsarama.com/comics/090909-levitz-statement.html

legality (first thing off my hard drive IDK)

You can thank Timm for the DVD movies. He's the one that knows his way around comic books.

I suspect that you're underestimating how much Diane Nelson knows about comics (she was also one of the people pushing Watchmen Motion Comics, which again suggests she knows something about comics and also understands that the internet exists.)

I also suspect that you're overestimating how important a full knowledge of DC is for her job.

(Part of the problem is that there's relatively little personal information about her; for all anybody knows she's been reading comics since she was 12.)

If she doesn't know she can learn - I'm sure she hasn't been as successful as she's been so far without doing her homework. Levitz will still be there, and Geoff Johns and Kurt Busiek and they can always hire back Mark Waid as an advisor. Between those four guys alone she can probably find out about every obscure character and continuity point in DC's history.

I don't think motion comics is a real leap. They had a movie and saw a way to promote it. I understand her job is to find ways to exploit the characters, how will she know what characters to exploit? Won't these advisors be telling her what to do for a good while? She seems like a face that can shmooze.

I really don't understand why you're operating under the assumption that she's not familiar with DC comics or their characters.

She seems like a face that can shmooze.

Huh? What exactly are you suggesting with that comment?

I'm working under the 'assumption' because its been made clear that she will rely on Levitz, Didio, Berger and writers for a time to familiarise herself with what DC is about. She said herself in her letter and interviews. As for her capacity to schmooze. I mean she'll be the acceptable face of DC to the executives of Warner and she'll be working them into doing stuff with the characters. That is not what we've come to expect from a president of DC.

I have read up more on it, and you're right, she's not necessarily a comics fan, but more of a facilitator between corporation and creator.

I'm sorry if I overreacted to your comment, it's just that I've seen a number of comments either implying or outright saying that she shouldn't have this job because she's a woman (and therefore supposedly doesn't know what she's doing).

That, combined with your saying that she "seems like a face that can shmooze" made it seem like you were implying something else in that vein, and you can understand why I'd get a little weirded out/offended by that. Sorry for misinterpreting.

That being said, it doesn't seem like her job actually is to be the president of DC Comics, but to be in a better position to use the creative output of DC comics in other media. Which does raise the question of who the highest authority with respect to DC comics is now...Dan Didio? Bob Wayne? Maybe some combined authority between them and Diane Nelson, with Paul Levitz weighing in on things?

According to Darwyn Cooke Bruce Timm didn't even want to make the DC: New Frontier movie.
