Adventure Comics #5 cover

From DC's blog:

For those who don't know, I'm guessing the Black Lantern here is Alexander Luthor, Jr.

Depends. Are they (a) killing people, like Superbitch Prime, or (b) have spent most of their careers at DC head office writing crappy stories to restore the status quo?

Either would apply. Although (a) would probably not be so good.

restore the status quo
When you throw around a fancy word like "Status Quo" you need to specifiy the status quo of when. "The status quo" isn't a synonym for "how it used to be", the status quo for Flash the last twenty-five years has been Wally West.

The reason DC keeps "restoring the status quo" to what it was thirty years ago is because it sells much better than what they've tried since. GL: Rebirth sold about four times as much as a regular issue of Kyle Rayner Green Lantern, and the GL ongoing has been consistently selling twice the numbers Kyle pushed. Flash: Rebirth is selling twice as many issues Flash's ongoing did before IC, twice as much as Flash:FMA did and three times more than the relaunch following All-Flash #1.
Blue Beetle, R.E.B.E.L.S. and Aquaman Sword of Atlantis is DC throwing you a bone with "new" characters and stories that hasn't been told fifty thousand times. All of these relaunches failed and the message that sends to DC is "This isn't working, stick with the tried and true."

We aren't getting the comics we want, we're getting the comics we deserve because fans buy bad books instead of good books.

P.S. all sales figures from

P.P.S. Not counting Flash:FMA as a new direction, DC had likely already made up their minds about killing Bart Allen before the first issue shipped. But that's a post for another time.
