Mod Post: Reminders and an Announcement
First of all, some reminders about posting:

  • Remember to keep making sure that any images outside of an LJ-cut are 300x400 pixels or less, so just remember to either check your sizes or use our handy-dandy LJ-cut code as provided in the posting guidelines. (Images outside of the cut should also be free of spoilers and should be Safe For Work, while we're at it.)

  • Another thing I'd like to remind everyone about is "NSFW" posts. "Not Safe For Work" means just that, something that might be inappropriate or questionable for viewing in the work place. Please remember that this does not just apply to porn or nudity, but extreme violence and gore as well. NSFW posts should be friendslocked, tagged, and say somewhere either in the post title or above the LJ-cut that it is NSFW, as people watching the group on the feeds can't see cut text.

  • As always, I encourage you to read the posting guidelines again if you need a refresher.

  • We've also got an announcement to make, as some changes are a-foot!

Long story short, my life and schedule are changing a bit, meaning I won't have the time/attention to devote to being a moderator here at scans_daily anymore. Thus, I am stepping down.

However, not only do you still have our other lovely and hard-working mods, we now have an awesome new moderator stepping up! Please join me in welcoming our newest evil overlord scans_daily mod, [info]sandoz_iscariot!

And since I'm no longer a mod, I'd better add a scan for legality:
From your favourite book and mine...

Be good, stay cool, say no to drugs, stay in school, look both ways before you cross the street, stay alert, stay safe, and don't do anything Batman wouldn't do! =) ♥

I'm still trying to figure on a way to keep everyone on beat. On key doesn't really matter, but if we lose rhythm, we lose everything. I'm wondering if I should record a backing track or something for people to follow along with as they make their recordings (but then what keeps me on beat?)

I'm also really tempted to change "girl Robins" to "bound Robins", but only if it's not stepping on any toes...
If I'm gonna do this, I need to stop being lazy about it.

Well, one way would be to make a video first with the lyrics typed out and have that timed correctly, so that the people singing can sing along to that.

Bluefall came up with an alternative to include bondage.

the problem there is the closest i have to video editing software is Windows Movie Maker
i was gonna put together the song and see if i couldn't get a volunteer for the movie, but we'll see how this goes

I saw that, but then you've gotta wonder if you can drop the "i loves", and how many times you really have to mention Robins.

I have...some kind of...mac...video editing software that came with my computer, but I've no clue how to use it, so I may be of no help. I have been meaning to figure it out, though, but I can't promise anything.

Alternatively, everyone could just sing the song individually and record it, and then we take the clips for each line and try to put them together in such a way that the timing is right. I have no idea how involved that would be, though.

What I'm wondering now, is what we'd do for the background music, if we have any way of downloading or replicating it. I mean, I know how to play the song on piano, but the recording quality is going to be poor.

how many times you really have to mention Robins.

Everything needs MOAR Robins. =)

For the background, I was thinking about vocalizing a backing track, but if it's piano I could just throw together something in Fruity Loops. That'll make keeping people on beat easier, actually. Though since finding the right pitch'd be trial and error for me (which is why i don't make more songs, i hate trial and erroring the right note), if you know how to play it on piano you might be able to tell me which keys it is?

And I'd somehow missed listening to the backtrack before. Thee "ahh ahh" will just be one more thing to throw on the list.

What's Fruity Loops?

The song is basically the main notes from "Heart and Soul": Middle C, A, D, lower G. It sounds more like it if when you hit C, you hit the E and G above it in a chorde (and the same pattern with the other notes: A with C and E, D with F and A, and G with B and D). Tell me if that doesn't make sense, as I'm not the most musically inclined and it's been many a year since I took music lessons.

I could record it, but my piano is a bit out of tune.

Fruity Loops/FL Studios is music production software, basically. It's built mostly for laying beats, but it's versatile enough to put any kind of song together.

Anyway, thanks for the notes, I'll try to throw something together when I get home from work tomorrow, and'll look a little closer at them then.
Okay, wait. Are each of these groupings the chords or the progression? I guess you're describing the chords, it's just that only the first one is outside the parentheses that confuses me.

Wait, okay. I get what you're saying now.
How's this?

Yes! That's it all right. It might be best to have it a touch slower, allowing for singing along, but maybe not.

You know, I've had this tab and one of Boom De Ya Da on Youtube open for (jesus) two months, but haven't done anything else because I'm a notorious laze-about. I'm trying to think what we'd need to do from here, aside from just making a post and asking for volunteers.

~ Expanding the backing track to be long enough for the actual song will be an eventuality, though the snippet might be best for now, since it's just to give the contributors a sense of rhythm. I'd prolly want to throw in more instruments to fill it out when I expand it anyway.
~ We'd need to write a third verse, wouldn't we? The original song had one, though we could get away with two if we really wanted to. (inviting [info]bluefall to participate in this step, since she wrote what we have so far, would be an obvious courtesy to extend)
~ Images to use for the video seems like a thing it would be cool to open to the community to help contribute to. Making this a community-based collaboration is, well, pretty much why we'd want to do it anyway.

So about the only things I think we might need before going public are finalized lyrics and maybe some vocals samples to give everyone the general idea. After that it's all coordination and compilation.

Haha, no worries. As am I, really--I had this comment thread starred and sitting in my inbox for all that time.

Your points sound good and they look like good places to start. I'll go poke [info]bluefall and see if she's in.

Well, Parse poked me, and hey, I'm in. Given a third verse to play with, we could easily work in the bondage without losing the "I love" or oversaturating the Robins (there's plenty of Golden Age Wondy to go around, after all), and do nods to some other stuff I wanted but couldn't fit (like props to indies/BDs).

Cool beans.

Should we maybe communicate via e-mail? (Since we will likely end up having to send files and so as to avoid anyone missing comments.)

I'm the only one with a public e-mail, so we'll prolly want to keep it that way, if for no other reason to avoid Newton (since he already has mine to begin with!). Or there's the screened replies bit, up to you.

Either way, mine's thelonechimaera@yahoo.com if we're moving the discussion that way.

oh shit!
I just got something!

It might've been what you were saying earlier, but the "ahh ahh" should totally be "LAAAAAA-AAAND, LIIIIIIEEE-FELLLLLD!"

You know, I hadn't noticed the "ahh ahh" backtrack either. I had just been thinking at the end of the lyrical portion of the song, we'd keep the music going a bit and then have the "LAAAAAAAANNNNNND" and "LIIIIIEEEEFEEEELLLLLD" cries to finish off.

Oh, also! You know how at the beginning, the astronauts are all "never gets old, does it?" IT TOTALLY WORKS because "never gets old" was one of the tags on the old comm, and has thankfully been revived here a little bit.

Maybe it could start off with this panel (from the group default icon) and the "never gets old, huh?" "nope" "it kinda makes you wanna--" "break into song?" bit of dialogue.

I'm almost inclined to just drop the intro, since we'd prolly want to record it from scratch anyway. If we do keep it, it might be best to further personalize it anyway.

Every time I think of Never Gets Old I think of one of the more recent uses, with the Batman/Superman break-up. Oh walls of love~~

I am catching up on my inbox! Sorry for the uber-belated responses here.

Yeah, recording it from scratch would make sense, but I'd still like to include the "never gets old"/"kinda makes you want to break into song" bit, so that it's clear it's a version of the boom-de-yada song.
