That's what I love about most of the ABC line: they were just plain FUN.

Tom Strong and Top 10 was just fun storytelling.

League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was slightly meta (at first; it got much more meta later on), but still just plain fun.

Promethea started like that before Moore climbed onto his soapbox for 10+ issues to talk about magic and reality, which brought the overall plot to a screeching halt. I was so disappointed in this that I sold all that I had to that point (I think volume 4, which I couldn't even finish reading).
