Hey, quick q, Ms. Simone. Is slurping really 'good manners' in J-culture?
I ask because I once read a book by a Chinese-American author when I was a wee lad and he wrote that slurping too was good manners, but when I asked my parents (Chinese and Taiwanese) they were all "Er, what?" I mean, slurping is the norm with regards to noodle soup, but I've never heard of it as good manners, just the logical outcome of dealing with noodles n' soup.
