There's a bit in one of the Sprawl trilogy books where the protagonist is trying to move 7 megabytes of black market RAM. Which was a lot at the time of writing... the Star Trek franchise avoided this sort of obsolescence by inventing the purposely-undefined term "quad" to measure computer memory in its Tech Manuals and occasionally on the show.
