Blackest Night: Superman--James Robinson and Slang
I like BLACKEST NIGHT. I like the Superman part of it. But I couldn't suppress a giggle when I saw this page, in which someone from Smallville, Kansas refers to being in Metropolis as being in "the smoke." I don't know if they use that phrase maybe in New England, but, er, nowhere else in this country--that's a very English (and old) bit of slang, and refers to being in London. A bit awkward. But not the first time that kind of slip has happened; I'm reminded of Alan Moore in SWAMP THING having a Louisiana kid saying "You can cut my bleedin' heart out if it's a lie" in NUKEFACE PAPERS.
