I'd say that in the Romita era, she didn't get a chance to show she'd be "worthy" of him, but that in 122, she had that chance and proved herself. (And kind of redeemed herself for not being that great of a girlfriend to Harry.)
If anything, having her know that Peter Parker was Spider-Man made her less worthy because it creates the question of whether she really loved Peter Parker or if she really fell for Spider-Man and Peter happened to be the guy behind the mask. Would she have put up with all Peter's quirks and flaws is he hadn't been Spider-Man? Maybe, but we know Gwen would because she did. (Though in her case, the question is, would she have put up with him being Spider-Man.)
