In Smith's Daredevil run (at the beginning of the Marvel Knight reboot), the story had a teenage girl who had apparently given birth to a baby as a virgin. Naturally, she believed the baby was the messiah. After her parents were brutally murdered, she went to Daredevil for help, who looked after the baby.
Anyway, at the end it was revealed she was just a pawn in Mysterio's grand scheme against Daredevil that used his Catholic faith against him, and the girl's child was merely a product of artificial insemination instead of divine intervention. Mysterio mentioned offhandedly that she was disposed of after she served her purpose, and we see some people digging in the woods.
The whole story was deriative, melodramatic crap IMO. I'm hardly a Mysterio fan, but it pissed me off to see him handled that way. The only reason why the story is remembered as much as it is because Karen was killed off by Bullseye.
