Not disputing how it would go in real life. What I mean is, within the fictional context, there's a fairly lengthy history of writers and audiences not going there for the sake of the story (frankly, a lot of commentators here seem to think this is some whole new thing that the ASM writers invented), so it's probably best to just read it in that context. You can deconstruct the trope if you want, of course.
