Hi guys! Here's another pop culture reference brought to you by the letter B! From Robin #152.

Gotta love Brucie in suspenders. Heehee.

Anyway, I've been looking for Robin back issues, since I'm working on my readings on the Bat family. I've been collecting issues penciled by Freddie Williams II, and been having fun with them, and I'd like to read more. I know (and trust) you guys would know what's crap and what's not, so any suggestions on what should I read? Thanks, you're all so great!

Well, geez, it's not like the Clash are new, or obscure. They were the biggest-selling "punk"* band ever.

*"Punk" in the loosest sense, as somewhere around the middle of their second album they realized their imaginations were bigger than that, thank god.

London Calling classic punk? Ok, Classic is a judgment call, but punk? Only someone who wasn't familiar with actual punk would call it that. Which kind of makes sense, since Alfred is the only one here who's the right age to have been listening to it at the time.

I'm pretty sure this was posted sometime back.

Guess who wrote this, kids? ADAM BEECHEN! In his hands Robin became the only OYL Batbook which did not suck BALLS, because it was filled with sweet moments like this and he wrote Bruce as being a halfway loveable human being who was actually capable of showing love and concern toward his new son. In fact, it'd have been perfect if he had never bought up Cassandra in his stories because it burned every time he did.

But yes, I always loved this little exchange.

Alfred's reaction doesn't work. The Clash are way too musically inoffensive for it, especially that song. Could have picked better and preserved both the joke and my willing suspension of disbelief. This feels like a writer trying to hard to make his characters look hip (though it falls flat enough that Tim looks like a total dork for it, which is perfectly in-character!).
