Positive Comic Week - Stray Title: Stray (Homage Comics, 2001, 44 pages) Creators: Scott Lobdell and Jimmy Palmiotti (writers), Adam Pollina (pencils) Availability: Out of Print
Repost from the old comm, but it fits the theme.
I confess, I'm a sucker for nearly any variation on the "a girl/boy and her/his dog" story, so this comic was right up my alley.
Short version: She is a wannabe actress. Her dog is possessed by an alien. And this is the kind of cartoony crack that transpires when the dog of a wannabe actress is possessed by an alien.
OK, so the first page does bug me. If you're going to do a close-up on a fake mag, either keep to the cover or take the time to write out the text of the articles. But it gets better (if one ignores a typo here and there).
The rest of the book details Rex's origin and how the two met. Really, the whole thing is just plain fun. I was quite bummed when it didn't get picked up as an ongoing.
