I'm not defending it. I'm just saying that this is something that happens sometimes--and I think calling it date-rape, by the way, is erroneous, as that is not borne out in the material; she remembers, and what she minds is not that it happened, but his reaction to it, which she finds insulting--to most guys at one time or another. Peter is a "normal person with normal problems"--apart from Dr. Octopus coming after him all the time, which I assume few have experienced. This would fit that. To have him be a teetotaller would limit his ability to be flawed. His "responsibility" issue is something he struggles with, not a done deal. The point of Peter is that he's not ideal, he's TRYING to be ideal, and he makes mistakes all the time.
That said, what I've seen of OMD is stupid and sucks, and unnecessary, and what bothers me about this is that it's like "What if Peter Parker was a character in FRIENDS?"
