NuSpidey continuity glitch (yes, yet another one) ...
... Relevant in light of recent events.

Say, Spider-Man, how do you feel about alcohol?

But that's okay, because according to Tom Brevoort, Spider-Man has nothing to do with responsibility.

At a guess, I'd say Sean Phillips.

Actually, it's a short story in Amazing Spider-Man, which makes it a bit shocking that it's also a very good one.

Well, maybe less shocking when you consider how few BND-reliant elements there are in a story about Logan and Spidey going to a bar.

Yeah. Even people who don't drink happen to make exceptions in some circumstances. And since they don't usually drink, they don't know when to stop.

I can name all the times Spidey has drunk alcohol of the top of my head.

Once when his landlord put booz in a punch he thought was alcohol free, once when he found out MJ was pregnant, once when MJ and him got back together after a separation during JMS run.

And that's it.

Spidey does NOT drink, not even at weddings.

He might, might have drunk a glass when Cap was dead, with the rest of the New Avengers, but that was doubt worthy.

Since BND though, the crappy amateurs pretending to write him in BND have utterly ignored the fact that Peter has been a teetotaller since the start of ASM. Of course, they can't relate to a hero, so they just want him as the total zero that they feel they can relate to.

Ahhh, the thing is, Peter isn't just human, he's superhuman and as he rightly says there, loss of control when you have superpowers is not a good idea. When you're strong enough to lift a bus over your head, taking something that causes a loss of control isn't something that Peter would (previously to BND) do.

I'm sure he's been to enough weddings to know that some random suppervillain could turn up at any second and start trashing the joint, so being drunk out of your mind isn't sensible.

Yeah, I think so. Any time Peter has gotten drunk, it's also been implied he's a lightweight. I think he got drunk off one glass once.

Like I said the last time this came up, the only Spider-Man who's been shown to have any sort of tolerance is Kaine (he was drinking a whole bottle in one of those Ben Reilly minis). I don't think that should count.

I still want to read The Adventures of Kaine Slowly Developing Tolerance, though.

Spidey saying he doesn't drink is not the same thing as Spidey not drinking. Same with Scott Pilgrim.

Spidey has had booze in handfuls of issues throughout the book's lifetime (I've been reading from #1 over the last year)

I know Spidey once fought a villain drunk, but for the life of me I can't remember who it was (I thought it was the Hobgoblin, but it's not in the issue I thought it was), do you happen to know?

"But that's okay, because according to Tom Brevoort, Spider-Man has nothing to do with responsibility."

Er, no, he said that's it's not the central theme of the series. I'm not sure I agree with that, but it's a far cry from the series having nothing to do with responsibility. I don't think Action Comics as a general rule is about the Bottle City of Kandor (current arc notwithstanding), but that doesn't mean I think Superman has nothing to do with Kandor.

Knowing you, you'll probably say that even if that's what he means, it still shows a fundamental misunderstanding of the character, or something along that line. Which is all fine and dandy an opinion for you to have, but it doesn't make your original claim about what Brevoort said any less in error.
